I have a 2002 sunfire gm sc'd eco and I'm growing tired of the gm reflash.
What kind of gains (hp/tq) could I expect from a mild reliable tune? Reliability is my main concern. (Car has 2.25 headerback exhaust, AEM cai)
Do I have to purchase a wideband gauge for this to work? (wondering cause the gauge is expensive, and I already have 3 other gauges intsalled, gauge pod is maxed out)
If I later install a 3.1 pulley with Heat exchanger, will I have to get it re-tuned?
General cost range after it's all said and done? Is it even worth it for the minor engine mods that I have?
Thanks for your time.
I dont see that you would get much of a gain in reliability, GM runs things rich to keep you safe, if it wasnt, they wouldnt warranty it. You will get a power gain in leaning things out instead of choking it with fuel. To tune you will need a wideband, this can be done either by you putting in one or taking it someplace and having them use a sniffer, but thats only effective if your not running a cat.
Most tunes will run you at least 150, prob several hundred if done by a good shop.

There was a post where someone dynoed a GM reflash car and then a custom tune. Power was a nice difference. Should be no realiable difference if the tune done right.
FU Tuning
Reliability should actually be better. The datalogs I have here on my laptop show a crapload of knock retard with the GM reflash.

This is the shop that did my tune. http://www.appalachianperformance.com
most shops I have run into looking for a tune start at 500.00
GM TUNE vs Custom TUNE
That isn't necessarily true.
I dyno'ed 196 whp on a mustang dyno on a custom tune. Guys running smaller pulleys with the reflash have made less power than that on the same dyno.

my car on stock pulley and stock reflash made 215whp that was on a dyno jet and I know they read higher then mustang dyno's so unless you just want a custom tune
to me the means doesn't justify the end. Just food for thought.
Thanks for the advice guys. I am going to hold off on a custom tune and stick with the reflash for now.
