Hey fellas Im doing the unthinkable. I'm finally putting exhaust on my car.
If you know me thats a big deal.
Now the question is 2.25 or 2.5?
Keeping in mind that sound is a huge deal and the 2.25 set-up is damn near free.
Whichever one I end up with it will have at least one resonater.
So what do you think?

dam i run better times than you s/c'd , LOL
and im a auto , 14.52@94 is my best
im running a pacesetter header coated , 2 1/4" cat , and rk/magnaflow 2 1/4" catback , ive got all 2 1/4" piping , and no resonator
ive got to add 1 badly though its pretty loud
im pretty happy with the 2 1/4" piping
If you don't go with 2.5" you'll regret it......
Hell, even without hte s/c you should go with 2.5"
ya i know 2.5 is probably the way to go.
I guess I was debating wheter the sound to performance ratio would be worth it.
Any input?

YES!
You want your S/C to breathe dont you? Don't be budget minded when it comes to your car. If your gonna do something, do it right hte first time around
not really budget minded as much as sound minded
but i get your point. 2.5in is the way to go
Thanks

thats what ive had on my car since a month after i bought it lol.....im even thinking of going 3" with the mods i plan on doing.....

a 1.5 second gain in the 1/4 mile is nothing to sneez at
the 2 1/4" is working great for me
my only complaint is the muffler rk spec out from magnaflow , and no resonator
i will be adding a 18" resonator soon
i think unless your spending all the time at the drag strip , 2 1/4" is a good way to go
once i put a M62 , and more than 10 psi at it , ill stick to 2 1/4"
i got some peiced together exhuast and i love it now.
stans header, no cat, 45inch 2.5inch glasspack, RK 2 1/4 around the gas tank over the axle and then a 2.5inch dynomax muffler.
that set up i am the happiest with by far as for sound and performance.
I have the stock manifold, no cat. converter, 26" cherry bomb glasspack as resonator, and a Magnaflow wide-open series muffler with an LS Sport tip welded on. All of it is 2 1/4" though I still have stock axle bend
.
I love it, I'll get a header someday, just in no real rush to right now.
^^^ your missing the GP that is going for headers right now
SHAME ON YOU JOE
I was just going to say that Jake is using a Dynomax Superturbo and if sound is you concern a Dynomax Super Turbo and a resonator will be you best bet.

Kidding! Guess it's worth getting the ceramic coated header. Maybe

I think any boosted J (regardless if it is charger, or turbo) should have 3 inch exhaust no questions. I really think 2.5 is the nest for N/A (on the 2.4's).
I would agree for sound a dynomax super turbo would be good, and I would not put a resantor.

I've heard otherwise. some people have in fact complained about losing a bit too much lowend for unboosted 2.5.
I have 2.25 and am gonna keep using that once I get my charger, Nothing wrong with it at low boost levels. once you start breaking 10 psi's and such I think should people be really worried about 2.5 or even 3. on a supercharged engine. But what the hell do I know I don't even have a charger yet

If you're so worried about sound, get the biggest resonator you can fit and call it a day.

I will agree on a N/A with only a intake, 2.50 is too big, but if you do a header and full exhaust TB etc.. you will gain. My car did not lose anything at all.

well considering the cobalt cup cars raced last season with a 3" exhaust making very close to 300 whp
and the racing season next year , they are doing 2 1/2" exhaust
that should tell you 3" is way to big for street use on a s/c
and 2 1/2" is big for a n/a motor
also hahn like to use 2 1/4" on the turbo cars

No that does not mean that. Like we have all said many times before, every set-up is different. I know of about 3-4 2.4's running 2.5 exhaust on n/a cars and they are stronger than when they ran with 2.25 exhaust. Couple of those cars without cats as well.

Interesting.... cause I had 2.5" exhaust when I was n/a . Only other mods were intake and 62mm throttle body and I ran a 15 flat.
I know I only gained 2-3 whp from going to 2.25 to 2.5 but I lost tq all over the band...
LE61T PTE6262 Powered
i went from a 2.25 to a 2.5. I did a pacesetter header and 2.5" from the down pipe to the exhaust there was a difference in the set up for the better exactly how much i am not sure. But a definate gain from the bottom end to the top end.
