First night out on the streets after sitting for two years since buying my house. I finally completed the new turbo setup, running 12psi on 100 octane with gm reflash and hp tuners. Bigger turbo , externally recirculated wastegate, HO Manifold port matched and HO TB. I use to have a very restricted internal gate setup with a smaller turbo, 2" charge pipes, and it was fast then as many of you may remember from my old videos floating around the internet . OMFG is this thing a beast now . Amazingly fast .
Unfortunately I may have damaged my transmission last night ,but not from anything I changed in the HP Tuners software it was my dumb fault , lemme explain. Here is what I changed and what happened after running it pretty hard for a few hours at 12 psi. i downshifted at too high rpm and too high speed from 3rd then down into 2nd. My brakes were heat soaked and I had no choice. I also pulled up the e brake to help slow down. No fluid is leaking at all. After doing this it still shifts fine but is making a nasty ass whining sound and I hear some rattling that I can't pin point . I think the whining is the torque converter or pump and the rattling it sounds like a washer rattling on a bolt. This is my third transmission I am not exaggerating. The first one took a crap at 40k slipping terribly . I then purchased a 4t45e from a Saturn L series and swapped over the components from that to the 2.4 bell housing along with a Yank converter and a MTI trans cooler . This trans was to be the one that should have been more than enough. I got three 1/4 passes on it and about 150 miles and the trans and or converter started slipping horrifically . So I wasn't about to dive into it and instead found a 20k mile trans on eBay for $ 150.00 . I couldn't pass it up and just swapped that in there with a stock converter to play it safe since I wasn't sure if it was the trans or the yank converter that had taken a crap on me.
OK so my max pressure I left at 90 psi . I also did not mess with the force motor current as I did my research and read what Todd Miller had said about that not being the proper way of doing things. I also did not yet tweak the desired shift time table as it seemed to be keeping up with the shifts OK at 12 psi on my setup.
- Under Engine / Torque Management / Vs. Gear / Maxed out to 1500 ft lbs.
- Under Trans / Torque Management / Abuse Mode Disabled .
- Under Trans / Torque Management / Torque Reduction Normal
and Performance Tabs zeroed out .
- Under Trans / Shift Properties / Normal / Used a 1.15 Multiplier 6 clicks.
at the end of the chart in the 3 to 4 shift in the 320 ft lb column my
maximum number was 234
- Injector constant balanced out for the 440 cc's idles perfect
- Idle raised to 900 rpm
- Coolant fan on/off temp adjusted
- Speed limiter raised to 140 mph for track purposes
- secondary 02 sensor error codes dissabled
- Raised rev limit to 7000 rpm
I have done absolutely no VE Tuning , Fuel Tuning or anything timing related with HP Tuners other than the torque reduction settings . I am just using the reflash and the wideband sits perfectly in the 11.1 to 11.5 range under boost. Gotta love that two bar reflash program man. The car literally drives like it was intended to be boosted from the factory. Crisp amazing throttle response.
I love the auto trans with boost and I cannot explain how hard it pulls once the car spools. I do not lose to many cars on the street. But enough is enough and cannot explain to you how sad I am that I have broken another one. Fortunately I have a 2000 Z24 5 speed doner car that was my daily driver until totaled out on Jan 21 of 07. 5 Speed swap here I come. It has a Spec stage one clutch but other than that the car was stock . The 5th gear syncro was grinding on it . That is the only thing that worries me. I will now be doing a full 5 speed swap with LSD Insert , Getrag tranny , and a new spec higher stage clutch. I was going to give the doner car minus the motor to PhilioZ24 who did a Isuzu swap on his auto turbo Z and is also the one who helped me with all of the transmission swaps. He is now having nasty problems with the gay ass Isuzu. I have yet to tell him that I now need the parts for my car and I feel real bad about that. On with the pics. Not sorry for the long post since I have not posted too much here lately but am back now . Those of you who know me know how much I have been through with this car including the fire and multiple transmissions lol. I cannot quit here and might take that doner motor to be built also.
