smoking, leaky seals, shaft rubbing the housing are probably the best hints.
Blew it up, build numbers coming soon
if you are talking about "worn out" you would look for:
-excess oil in the intake tube (possibly with brass shavings)
-abnormal smoking from the exhuast pipe
-increased turbo lag
-decreased boost
-fin damage from rubbing on housing
those are in order.. catch it early... cause if you have the last one.. you have all the others.

thanks for the info.....but if the fin's are rubbing on the housing, could you only hear it while your driving or could you also hear it when your in park/neutral? Im asking because i just started to hear like a scraping sound when you start to excellerate from a dead stop and then you dont hear it anymore when your in mid to high speed. When i put the car in park you dont hear it or in neutral.
