. car still likes to get real warm at stand still so prolly a head gasket...just keep on plannin the 5k clutch drops and reverse to first burnouts

how do you know when the thermostat is on its way out any easy signs of it? thanks i have 236kms on mine and asfar as i know it works good
A sign of a bad thermostat is an engine that overheats at idle but doesn't at speed or when revved; a bad thermostat can sometimes cause overheating on the highway depending on the car...I know ours does because when my thermostat crapped at 210k miles it overheated an hour from home...I want to drive this car off a cliff sometimes but it's gotten me about 220k of travelling so far so i guess it's not THAT bad...too bad the engine is falling apart as fast as the rest of the car. by the time the engine is shot(should be in the next 20k or so) the rest of the car will be worthless too...last time i EVER buy a cavalier. Time to buy myself another 1980's RWD 5 speed inline 6 for a daily driver.

my car wont get up to temp hotest it gets up to is 150. Seems like the thermostat is stuck open.

someone could have put in a 160 degree thermo and your cluster just reads 150, Does it heat up to 150 quickly or very slowly. if it has a thermo it'll heat up fast and level off. I put 195 deg thermos in my cars for better efficiency.

It just started. It will go to 195 then drop down to 150, also it's very very slow to warm up to when it finally decides to, also it drops very quickly on wide open throttle.

Sounds like they didn't put a thermostat in it at all. I've known lazy people that do that. They take the old one out and don't bother putting in a new one(like it takes so much time and effort to do once you've removed the old one) I think it's more of a cheapass thing lol. It causes fluctuations like that. The WOT drop is because there is nothing to hold the water back so when you floor it it cools like crazy.

why would it do it all of a sudden I've had the car 2 years now and now out of the blue there it would do that. It's go a T-stat in it. I think it's just sticking partially open all the time had it before. I think when I put in the new 180* T-stat I'm gonna flush the cooling system and put the green antifreeze back in it. I've seen alot of problems with corrosion from the dexcool.

Well in winter weather, mine doesn't ever heat up... I'm lucky to see 150*, and if I want to turn the heat on...forget it. Its a 2002 2.2OHV, I just assumed it was a cold-blooded beast. It heats up to 195 in the summer, and only goes over if it idles excessively.
Anyone else have this experience
check the coolant mixture, is the fan constantly running keeping the motor cool. replace your thermostat. if your fan is staying on make sure you dont have a check engine light on or make sure a temp or fan switch isn't going bad.

Yea if something is wrong...it has been wrong since I got the car about 70k miles ago...
