91 cav 2.2 125K miles all stock, lost spark on 1& 4, put in new coil and worked for 2 days, then went bad again. Its such a B&*%# to get at I replaced ignition mod and both coils, plugs and wires replaced 10 months ago...still no spark at 1&4 any help appreciated, I'm stuck
where did you get the coil? sounds like a bad coil or ignition module
Got ICM at autozone, re-tested it and tests OK, coils came from local parts house, tested them and OK too . HMMMMMMM
Check the ICM plug, a wire may have pulled out or broken and isnt making contact. I had that happen with my alternator plug once and the alternator was good but wasnt charging for some reason. I changed the plug and it worked flawlessly.
Problem solved ICM was cutting out when hot, tested ok when cool, swapped it out for another one(the repair shop did) and now all ok...but I am $200 poorer, but wiser(I think)
this may be a dumb question, but what is ICM? My '93 that I race on dirt tracks has been cutting out, only when it gets hot (and only coming out of corners, curiously enough) and I have been trying to hunt down the gremlin that is causing it.
Ignition Control Module. Coil packs bolt on to it. ICM, coils, and CPS can all start acting flaky when hot making cold testing a shot in the dark.
