Ignition Upgrade

I want to upgrade the ignition in my car and was wondering, can I just replace the coil pack with remote mounted coils and run plug wires without having to buy an MSD box? I figured I could buy higher voltage coil packs and help a lil.

coil packs transfer the energy.

the msd is the amplifier....

kinda hard to make a bigger spark without an amp, right?

Actually, the MSD coil packs (along with most after market ones) are lower voltage, the stock is 45k and after market is 40k. The new packs simply have a better response.
