How much of a sound and performance difference will a 2 chamber vs. 3 chamber mufler make
I have a pacesetter ceramic eco header, 2.25" magnaflow high flow cat, 2.25" manderal bent catback piping, I still have to pick a resonator and mufler. From taking a few pics and measuresments I figure a 29" (I know 27" is a more common size, I'll prolly go with that) resonator will be a good fit, and for a mufler I'm debating between flowmaster 40 series (2 chamber) and flowmaster 50 series (3 chamber). No fart cans here, this is for the daily driver so I want to keep it as quite as possible without giving up power, so back to the original question..... How much of a sound and performance difference will a 2 chamber vs. 3 chamber mufler make?
the more chambers the quieter and deeper it is, really depends on how its made. flow can be prettymuch on par with a straight through design again depending on manufacturer. there are also alot of other things to look at like physical size (concludes how close together the chambers are). I myself run 3 chambers and they can get plenty loud when you "honk" on the go-pedal. two's seem to be too loud when i'm on the hwy.

um, i had the understanding that flowmasters, all series of them, are loud and annoying.
you need a 25" dynomax super turbo. last time i say it.

it preaty much came down to super turbo or 60 series (meant for 4 cylinders and small 6 cylinders, 3 chamber design), I've heard people say both sound liek @!#$ and I've heard people say both sound good. I'm still trying to deciede between the 2, I've heard flowmaster 40 series and dynomax super turbo both on an axle back eco with an otherwise stock exhaust. Both sounded good, the 40 sounded quiter of the 2 and the 60 is serpossed to be considerably quiter then the 40 series. But the Dynomax has offset inlet center outlet which is what I want. The 60 series has center inlet center outlet or center inlet offest outlet. I've yet to find an eco with my same exhaust setup so I can hear it
and there is no 25" dynomax in any size, bigest body for 2.25" inlet is a 14"
but I think I decieded I'm gonna use
THIS as my resonator
I did just find a 20" mufler, overall length is 25" if thats what your thinking of, the mufler itself isn't that big though, but the more I look the more I'm liking that one

Apexi- turbo muffer, soooo deeep and sounds soooo good, thinking about what my car use to sound like gives me a chubby!! Mine was straight from the turbo back, 3 inch, with the apexi muffler, sounded amazing, loud obivously because it was straight 3 inch, but it was really deep and sounded great. I dont like to brag, but to me, my car was the best sounding cavalier i have ever heard, with my taste anyway. One of my friends, he owns a 3rd gen camaro, and he kept telling me that no matter what, you couldnt ever get a 4cyl to sound good....he was pleasantly suprised, and thought that my car sounded better than his small block!

That's somewhat what I have. Personally I don't like the sound of flowmaster mufflers. They resonate at the muffler.
Right now on the car I have a 2.25 inch comp. bend exhaust, 12 in resonator, magnaflow (non polished) muffler, with a "non-flashy" turndown like you described. It could be quieter (if that's a word,lol), but with the large resonator and super turbo muffler you are putting on it should be fairly quiet.
Just my two cents.
It isnt a fart can, not hardly. It is a muffler. Sounds absolutly nothing like a fart can, not here sir. Apexi WS2, great muffler.
Also, dont go with flowmasters....I had a flowmaster 60 series on before the WS2, I didnt like it at all. Resonated beyond believe, and it was quite a bit louder than the WS2, but I just read your posts again, and you want it stock looking out the back, i guess the WS2 isnt goign to help you there.

and yeah as close to stock looking as possible and quite as possible without sacrifcing power. this is for the my beater/daily driver cav, I already have one cav I would get pulled over in all the time hahahah I don' want this one to end up the same.
and btw the Dynomax has a 90 day money back gaurantee if your not satisfied
so I think that just made up my mind. Problem is I don't know when I'll actually get aorund to installing all this, originally I was thinking in the spring sometime before autoX season starts.
I have a similiar setup to what you are talking about.. I can try to get a sound clip or video of it..I love the way it sounds..has a nice little rumble when you get on it..but most people don't even know I have an aftermarket exhaust.

which resontor are you running and do you still have stock header?
you're on crack if you think the 20/25" dynomax is a "small" muffler. its practically the same size as stock. just flows better. i have the 17747. the 67 i believe has an extra bracket or something so it can be used as a bolt on for specific cars, hence why its also more expensive. i originally had the 14/18" muffler and the interior resonance was ungodly. when i switched it out to the larger muffler, it was such a difference that i was actually debating whether i had gone TOO quiet. but i later got over it. my setup is pacesetter, cat 94035, 26/31" thrush resonator, 2.25" piping, and then the 17747. i honestly think its as quiet as you're gonna get (it does have a slight rumble to it, but nothing like most other setups), without going to an actual oem muffler like walker or something.

I didn't say it was small, I saying it isn't that big... as in the muffler itself wasn't a full 25" when you look up the 25" muffler. I thought the you were saying the muffler body was surpossed to be 25". 20" is not as big. Make sence?
Also do you have asound/video clip of yours? originally I was thing about a glasspack but I didn't expect it to do as much as the actual magnaflow muffler I listed earlier in this thread.

I'm pleased with it. It has a nice rumble to it at idle and doesn't get very loud under acceleration. Resonance is not an issue. The muffler doesn't flow as good as a straight through coffee can by any means though (noticable drop in power after it was put on). As far as the magnaflow vs. glasspack, I would go with the glasspack since it probably weighs a lot less.
i agree it is a little hard to differentiate and compare mufflers by body length or overall length. i've had to use both on jbo before because ppl get confused between mufflers.
ANYWAY
i've noticed over the years that posting audio of exhausts is a really bad way to make comparisons because audio always sounds different than real world. but anyway, here's a clip that i took in my interior. the first part of the clip is around 3/4 throttle, and the rest of it is light throttle. it honestly sounds more resonant than it really is in real life, i guess the only comparison to it would be to compare the loudness of the blinker clicking and the dash (and suspension) banging around when hitting a pothole. the mic was also catching a lot of noise from the engine bay. hope it helps.
