That looks like my LO....
Make sure thats a true HO before you do all that work.
It took me 16+ hours to completely smooth my LO intake manifold....and I took it back off my car only after two weeks. Car with out a drought slowed down. 6-8 tenths at the track...
~~~shakes head~~~
Shave off all the square nubs.
From left to right.....
1st runner shave the circle nub.
2nd runne keep the circle.
3rd shave
4th (closet to the tb mounting point)... you can keep it if you wanna use the 2.3L mounting bracket and use CC.
But tilt the thing down so we can see if its HO or LO, we need to see the whole plenum from the front.
You can shave off this much. It is a bad angle but you get the idea
Dont throw it away.
Trade it at the yard.
Maybe they'll let you swap it or at least get the core charge back.
There are a couple of other HO part numbers: 22538691, 24570288, 24571319. I just finished installing part #24571319 in my Cavy yesterday. Make sure before you trash it. As fo any gains, it's fairly minimal. Say bye bye to low end power band. However, it looks great and sounds better. Overall it's a much more even power band but it it doesn't knock your socks off and won't without further modding. Good luck deciding if you still want to do it.
you can shave off all of the nubs if youd like but as stated above and what i did is i left the round one closest to the throttle body to mount the tb cable bracket
OK, here's my cast manifold educational picture. Top left manfiold is an HO modded to fit a 2.4, top right is a stock HO manifold, bottom right is a log style LO manifold, bottom left is another style of LO manifold(can't remember if it's old or new, doesn't really matter in this case). Note the size of the plenum on the HO manifold as opposed to the LO manifold. This is the easiest and quickest way to check to see if it's an HO. The LO tapers off quite drastically away from the throttle body, while the HO only has a slight taper, with a larger plenum.
As far as what you need to keep to make the manifold functional: Not a damn thing. Shave off every blemish that you feel like. In the end you need to bolt a throttle body to the manifold, and bolt the manifold to the car. You will use the two fittings between the runners for vac sources, and all other holes can be capped with CNC plugs.
Here's what I did with mine:
LO or HO, I don' think anyone has dynoed the difference, for a turbo application or any boost app. I think the LO would work better, correct me if you think I am wrong..
