True the muffler is after the rear axle so how could carbon monoxide possibly get to the passenger compartment is what your thinking right ?
Heres the answer. Carbon monoxide is a lighter then air very thin gas so that means as hes sitting stopped at a red light the carbon monoxide is rising up and forming a pocket under the trunk pan. Now we all know about that little flap in the passenger side of the trunk compartment and so does the carbon monoxide and ANY hole that is not 100% air tight it can enter. Now I don't know about your cars but all the J's that I've seen have fold down seats in the rear so heres how it goes. Hes in stop and go heavy traffic, maybe an accident on the highway, its hot as hell and he has the windows up tight and the A/C kicking. But thats just not cutting it so he flips to max A/C in which the car recirculats the cabin air to cool it as much as possible. The exhaust fills up underneath the trunk everytime he stops the car and starts to fill the trunk with carbon monoxide.
How long do you suppose it will be before it starts to enter through the cracks around the back seat? And then hes breathing it in.
Its not a streach for the imagination it happens all the time and it can be very dangorous.
Like I said BE CAREFUL.

Your logic makes 0 sense. Your facts are all 100% correct but the fact your missing is that the MUFFLER does NOTHING to reduce the Carbon Monoxide coming out the tailpipe. Sorry man but it's a fact. Your gonna get just as much carbon monoxide with the muffler off as with the muffler on....it'll just be louder now. Good job on the massive amounts of facts though....you just used them wrong

By cutting he muffler off he shortens the exhaust pipe from exiting just after the bumper to exit just under the trunk. I'd say about a foot difference in where the exhaust exits.
