In any case...You may be right that it is a better flowing than stock unit, especially since you recall the piping being possibly larger. I'm reading over the description again here at Summit Racing Here and it really doesn't answer all the questions and doubts either of us have, so this definitely may be a question specifically for Magnaflow via email. That is unless someone else here knows about it / has experience with it. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will speak up.
Very interesting. I had also purchased this cat from Summit 3 moths ago but havent had a chance to install it. If I recall correctly I checked the pipe diameter and it was over 2 inches. Its over a buddies house so I cant do a verification on the diameter as of this post.
I had thought that this was a "High Flow" (flows better than stock) but was a bolt on version instead of weld. When they stated "These converters are designed to exact OE specifications" I interpreted to mean that the length and flange were to spec so to be a bolt on not needing modification. My header and Catback are flanged so it just made sense to bolt in a new Cat.
MagnaFlow's website has 3 sections for Cats: Stainless, Universal and 43000 ODBII. If you select "Universal" then select "Products" you have an option for "Universal Fit" and "Direct Fit". What's the difference other than the flanges is a good question for the folks at MagnaFlow.
Anyway just my 2 cents, Im no Cat expert, car or otherwise.
