The 2.25" cat you want is p/n 94035

Using 94035 (or any of the 94XXX series that's the right size) because they don't cause the check engine light to come one and cause problems. The one you odered is a "direct fit" like you said, which means it's got flanges on it so you can bolt it right up the way the stock converter would, which is convenient and all, but basically you bought is kind of like an exact stock replacement converter.

"These converters are designed to exact OE specifications" - SummitRacing.com

I'm gonna assume that it uses stock-size piping on the ends, which is restrictive. Maybe this thing flows better than stock, maybe a little, but it's not gonna make any difference at all. I'd say return it / cancel the order, and buy the Magnaflow 94035 2.25". It's cheaper than the one you just bought anyway.

Hope I got all this info right... someone let me know if I'm mostly on-track...

Well that just sucked. I posted a message and it didnt take now I have to rewrite the whole thing. In any case...

Very interesting. I had also purchased this cat from Summit 3 moths ago but havent had a chance to install it. If I recall correctly I checked the pipe diameter and it was over 2 inches. Its over a buddies house so I cant do a verification on the diameter as of this post.

I had thought that this was a "High Flow" (flows better than stock) but was a bolt on version instead of weld. When they stated "These converters are designed to exact OE specifications" I interpreted to mean that the length and flange were to spec so to be a bolt on not needing modification. My header and Catback are flanged so it just made sense to bolt in a new Cat.

MagnaFlow's website has 3 sections for Cats: Stainless, Universal and 43000 ODBII. If you select "Universal" then select "Products" you have an option for "Universal Fit" and "Direct Fit". What's the difference other than the flanges is a good question for the folks at MagnaFlow.

Anyway just my 2 cents, Im no Cat expert, car or otherwise.

You may be right that it is a better flowing than stock unit, especially since you recall the piping being possibly larger. I'm reading over the description again here at Summit Racing Here and it really doesn't answer all the questions and doubts either of us have, so this definitely may be a question specifically for Magnaflow via email. That is unless someone else here knows about it / has experience with it. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will speak up.

Well the other day I shot magnaFlow an email inquiring about the difference between the 2 Part Numbers and flow rate of the stock Cat. Havent got a reply yet. I got curious and took a trip to my friends house to remeasure the Cat. Using calipers the OD of the pipe is 2 inch and the ID is about 1.8 inch (isnt this the stock diameter?). So it is not as wide as I had recalled or I just goofed when I originally measured it. Sorry to misinform anyone reading my post above. Even though the pipe diameter isnt wider or much wider Im curious to hear from MagnaFlow to see if it is constructed such that the flow rate is better than a stock Cat. In any case for me Im just going to live with it and be happy. I dont feel this will make a tremendous difference in the performance of my lighting quick 2200 .
