You would basically need the ECU, Engine, Transmission, Ignition System, Fuel system, all the hoses & wires...basically, everything out the engine bay. It's best to buy a donor car to do the swap.

You have a 99 2.2? Swap in a 99 2.4L with transmission... keep the same type of trans... and it's a bolt-in, plug and play swap. No need to change anything past the wiring plug near the brake booster.

If you had a 2.3 in your vehicle and wanted to go with a 2.4 now, you'd have to switch computers being that the 2.3s were OBDI computers and all 2.4s are OBDII computers.

If you had a 2.3 in your vehicle

then you need to stop looking at twincams and start looking at something that says High Output on the top of it or better yet w41

Yes and No. You'll also need the 2.4 engine wiring harness that is a manual since you already have a manual.

Remember the 98's had the EGR valve.. The mid to late 99's don't have the egr.. You'll have to take that into consideration when searching for a wiring harness as well.. There are a couple engines in the classifieds right now.

The Getrags were on the 2000+ manual j-bodies, the Isuzus are on the 95-99s.

The transmission is the same but the bellhousing is different.

Since you have a 99 2.2L 5 speed... you could take a 99 2.4L 5 speed and bolt it in, either with the engine harness or modify the 2.2L one to work (it's pretty similar...). Have GM reflash the PCM from 2.2L to 2.4L, and you're good to go. Probably the easiest swap to do, since you're already a 5 speed you don't have to piss around with mounts.

You'll want the 99-02 engine, but the 99 (Isuzu) 5 speed transmission in order to just "bolt in". If you want the Getrag trans, that's the 00-02... and you'll have to modify the front trans mount, and replace the rear mount, and change the clutch cylinder, line to the slave, the shifter assembly, etc.

I'd suggest, simply for ease of install, the 99-02 engine with a 99 (Isuzu) trans. Easiest to do.
