friend of mine was arguing with me about injectors. does the 2200 have 4 injectors or one?
4 cylinders... 4 injectors...

thats what i said but he didnt belive me. i didnt see how you could use just one injector but....hes not exactly the brightest bulb in the pack
no he's not. there are some engines that use 2 injectors per cylinder, but one injector for all four. that just doesn't make any sense.

i could understand 2 per cyl but exactly what you said one injector just isnt gonna cut it
alot of ppl that get starved for fuel on a 2.2 add extra injectors since bigger injectors for that motor are hard to come by

Tell your friend to learn a little bit about cars before arguing with someone.

really? how do you mount the extra injectors

I believe they are mounted on the end of the fuel rail, on cyl's 1 and 4. And there is an interface box. But I've never seen that system work properly.

your friend wasn't 100% wrong. The old 2.0L and the 90-91 2.2 OHV were TBI and had only 1 injector.

what about the 2.2 right before the 2200?

Wow I forgot about TBI. The 95-97 2.2 OHV had sidefeed injectors, like I have. NO aftermarket support for them. The 2200 had topfeed injectors, which give tons of aftermarket support for larger flow options. Stupid GM.

You know, it's kind of funny about the side feed injector having no support. I believe that injector has been used on some IRL engines. And if you look through Delphi's press releases, they recommend using that injector for racing applications. But they don't give out any part numbers for different sized units.
Don't forget TBI. The early 2.0/2.2 with one TBI injector has ample fuel capacity to supply a mild turbocharged engine, yet the later port fuel injected 2.2 doesn't. Go figure.

yup....and the older 5.7L motor was TBI as well.......2 injectors for all 8 CYL
the pontiac fiero 4cyl has 1 injector. pre 86 that is
