ECOTEC cams from Comp Cams....
Thursday, May 19, 2005 5:09 PM
Just curious to find out if anyone has bought a set of cams from Comp Cams yet...

If so, how are they? Are they throwing codes? I want to buy these, but don't want to throw a CEL because of them

I've heard funky things about comp cams. some people throw CEL codes some don't have any problems.

Some bust rods and have rough idles too from what I've heard.

The only cams I see working for people is J-body performance stage 1 and might have a couple people have the stage 2 work ok but I think they throw atleast 1 code. I have the stage 1 and no codes thrown cause of the cams but I did start running lean but no lean code was thrown.

You know JBP has a fix for that now. They reflash the PCM and according to them, it eliminates all codes on the Eco.

a little over priced and inconvienent you have to send them a ECU and they reflash to and then send it back to you and then you hope that it works right and if not you have to send it back again a big pain in the ass for $550

in all honestly i would go with the stage 2's if you go JBP. the CEL isnt that bad and doesnt put the car into limp mode or nothing either. but iti s your money and choice haha

If your a street only car and take your car to inspection, you don't want to spend $ on cams that will throw codes, you personally don't want your check engine light on all day long. JBPs Stage 1 perfect for a street only/daily driver car. Stage II's is if you really don't care about the code but you could run into problems with knocking...that's a possibilty cause the computer goes "hay-wire" when the profile is slightly higher. That's my opinion.

Need Turbo cams, with long ass duration and small overlap.
Who can make that.
Lift could be a bit higher since I might rev it up to about 7000RPM or so??

Anyone know where I can get these custom ground??

Do alot of reasearch on how cams work with motors/computer and call up Colt Cams (604-856-3571) and tell him exactly what profile you want. By the way they are located in Canada so prepare for a long distance call if your in the US. You can check out their website also www.coltcams.com. When you call ask for Jeff, he's the owner and a very nice & helpful guy.

The beauty about the stage I cams is that you don't NEED any other modifications to have them run properly. They are street cam profile which is mainly for daily drivers/weekend warrior types who still want to pass inspection. For more info go to their site: www.jbodyperformance.com

Good luck with your decision

By the way, JBP is based in Canada so if you want to call them prepare for another Long Distance call if your in the states...just a little 411

I would have posted if I had seen this... I have the Comp Cams and was one of the first ones to do so...

I have NEVER had a code thrown. AND I toasted an Aurora in an s-turn and he couldnt catch me on the straight-away afterwards... I'm pretty happy with my performance from them. (Obviously, I have other things done as well.)

There is your answer red04cavy

No one really posted any type of results of those cams so we had no idea how they ran. Glad you did...you learn something new everyday.
