I busted a shift cable. And I just put new ones on not even a year ago. It frayed right where it connects to the plastic end. Not exactly sure how, but it did. So, any suggestions? I don't want to pay another $100 at the dealer.
If they didn't last, you might try going back to the dealer and explaining the situation. Maybe they will at least give you a discount or something on new ones. If not, you could always go the junkyard route.
i get my stuff from
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/
it's a dealer that sells stuff online. most things i have bought from them are about 50% off dealer cost.
www.michaelsportfolio.com
I need a part number to use that site

That's one thing I don't have!
you can search the site by part description..
www.gmpartsdirect.com
-parts catalog..

When I broke the cable on my 90 cav, i went to home depot and picked up a welding rod (i think thats what it was) for like 77 cents. all I has to do was put on the plastic ends and it worked great.
But I would check a scrap yard first and go from there.

Wow, GM parts direct wants $170 for both cables. I think they're on crack. I got mine brand new from a local dealer for just over $100. I think I might try a boneyard. Anybody else have any suggestions? After I bought my last set, I had like 3 people on here tell me I was a dumbass for paying so much and that they knew places to buy them new for like $60. Where are all those people now? I think they were the dumbasses for lying about it apparently.
I got mine here in Ottawa from a yard for $20 bucks!!! best deal I've gotten for car parts!!
this is for a 1999 manual transmission
Standard Trans,Trans Mfr CD MJ1 - part # 22650716 OUR PRICE: $86.59
Standard Trans,Trans Mfr CD MK7 - part # 22650715 OUR PRICE: $86.59
copy paste the long number... starts with 226 into the place where it says "part #" on www.gmpartsdirect.com
this kids, is how we spoon feed.
when i ordered mine (i own a z24, dont know how or if its different) i ordered one PAIR.

There are two cables. It's $86 for each! Look closely at the item description. There are two part numbers, one for each cable, and when you look at the package contains note, you see it says one item, or in other words, ONE CABLE. So THAT"S how you spoon feed. Did I explain that well enough for ya? Please, don't ever think your crap doesn't stink and that you have a right to be condescending, because I really don't appreciate it. Thanks for trying to help though.......

i was assumed a dumbass because i paid 86 for mine. near 60, not 170. call the dealer and give him the part number(s) and see if you need both. or one.

Yep, I need both, thanks. And I can get both at a local dealer for $110. GM parts direct isn't that stellar of a deal.
