Anybody know a good cheap place to buy shift cable
Sunday, August 20, 2006 6:47 PM
I busted a shift cable. And I just put new ones on not even a year ago. It frayed right where it connects to the plastic end. Not exactly sure how, but it did. So, any suggestions? I don't want to pay another $100 at the dealer.

If they didn't last, you might try going back to the dealer and explaining the situation. Maybe they will at least give you a discount or something on new ones. If not, you could always go the junkyard route.

When I broke the cable on my 90 cav, i went to home depot and picked up a welding rod (i think thats what it was) for like 77 cents. all I has to do was put on the plastic ends and it worked great.

But I would check a scrap yard first and go from there.

Wow, GM parts direct wants $170 for both cables. I think they're on crack. I got mine brand new from a local dealer for just over $100. I think I might try a boneyard. Anybody else have any suggestions? After I bought my last set, I had like 3 people on here tell me I was a dumbass for paying so much and that they knew places to buy them new for like $60. Where are all those people now? I think they were the dumbasses for lying about it apparently.

There are two cables. It's $86 for each! Look closely at the item description. There are two part numbers, one for each cable, and when you look at the package contains note, you see it says one item, or in other words, ONE CABLE. So THAT"S how you spoon feed. Did I explain that well enough for ya? Please, don't ever think your crap doesn't stink and that you have a right to be condescending, because I really don't appreciate it. Thanks for trying to help though.......

i was assumed a dumbass because i paid 86 for mine. near 60, not 170. call the dealer and give him the part number(s) and see if you need both. or one.

Yep, I need both, thanks. And I can get both at a local dealer for $110. GM parts direct isn't that stellar of a deal.
