Well yesterday I took my sisters 99 sunfire gt out for a drive and her shifter was nice and tight and close together hell I almost missed gears , on my 95 I can throw my shifter all over the place . Did they change something over the years ? is the gt more short ? or is mine just done lol ?
Mine did the same thing when the shifter linkage was starting to wear, it has a "cup and ball" joint on the bottom of the shifter aswell as on the transmission, and as this wore out more mine got more and more play in it, eventually I had to replace the linkage as the cup would just pop off the ball sometimes, now its back to being nice and tight
Did she buy it used? If so it could have had a short throw put in before she bought it...
nope she bought it right off the showroom floor , so the cables can be changed does the part with the ball change or do I need to change the entire system , I think a new B&M might be in order lol
I love my b&m short throw...
I know before I put mine in everything was very loose...
Unfortunatley I was not able to just change the cup or the ball piece, I tried searching but it turned out to be a dealer only part, and you need the whole cable
I seem to be having the same situation with my 99 Cavalier (2.2L). One evening I was trying to accelerate a bit quickly and when I tried to shift into second I heard grinding and then the stick gave way and there was no second gear. However my other gears still worked; but I quickly learned that all my gears (including second) worked fine. But anytime I try to shift too quickly or with too much force the shifter seems to slip and I can't get a gear. Do you think this sounds like the ball joint? If so any idea how much a new part would cost? Thanks for any help.
