Buddy of mine needs to replace motor from 99 z24. Was wondering if its possible to replace it with the 2.4 from 96 grand am. I know some changes were made in 1999 to the LD9 and there are actually 3 different LD9 part numbers. Does anyone know what changes were made and if they can be swapped. If not, what motors will actually fit the 1999? only 1999-2002? Need some engine experts on this one!! Thanks in advance!

The engine block on 96 Grand Am 2.4 in 99 are the same, The upper intake manifold and emission system with be different, In which if you have to a bit of modding to get things to work, You will need pcm from the 96 grand Am possibly wiring harrness, Its quite a pain. Just better off getting another 2.4 engine that 99. Ive done a few conversions with 88 tempest 2.8L V6 engine& tranny swap in to cavalier 2.8L V6 I had to replace the PCM / wiring harness, Also change the transmission module, For this swap, Too much trouble for it was worth.
