1996 VW Passat 2.0 ( 8V ) GAS TIMING BELT REPLACE
Saturday, April 15, 2006 1:46 PM
Hi,

We are in the process of replacing a timing belt on a 1996 VW PAssat 2.0 ( 8 Valve ) gas and are having a problem lining up the timing marks. The Chilton manual we have is very vague on how all the marks line up? Can anyone help out with advice please?

Thanks,

Will

Hey,

Well after getting a print out from a Mitchell manual, we are closer. The crank has to be at 12 oclock, and so does the cam. The intermediuate pulley has to line the distrubutor so that #1 cyl fires on TDC, which sets up the fuel & ignition timing.

Went for a test drive, and it must be out by a tooth because it is sltill a little hesitant, so we will be tinkering a little more tomorrow one tooth at a time untill it is right!!

Thanks for the replies.

Hey,

You could have replied, more input is always welcome.

My cousin came over with a Mitchell print out which was way more detailed than the Chilton books!!

It runs great!

Thanks alot!!
