I’m on a quest to find 16” wheels that will fit over my 13” rotors and calipers. The manufacturer of the brake kit claims that 17” wheels or larger must be used but I am convinced that some 16” wheels will work. I found that Snowman has actually tested two different style stock 16” Cavalier wheels over the brake kit and surprisingly the inside diameter of the wheel actually clears the caliper but the spokes do not, which tells me there are some 16”s out there that will fit my car.
Does anyone know of any 16” wheels made to have clearance for big breaks? Or better yet, does anyone (local guys) have some 5X100 (57.1mm hub) 16” wheels I could test fit on my car?
Here are a couple pics of the stock 16”s over the brake kit.

I dont think any other 16" rims will have more clearance...to do so would remove some of the metal used to make the outter rim, which greatly increases the chance of the wheels breaking..
My oldschool ADR's may, but they are long discontinued... Pic over wilwoods (I can get more if need be)... caliper should be about the same size as the Baers
If you can get a set of 16's with a lower offset (mine are 42mm), that might clear the caliper (may have to go w/ 40mm)
did you just try using arp studs and a wheel spacer?
its gonna be real close. i personally dont think they will fit because most wheels bulge in a little bit as u move outwards. regardless, if u want some "stock" looking wheels, try tire rack's sport edition or discount tire's rage wheels. i bought some rage wheels and my NW swap fits nicely, although its a real close fit with the caliper and the wheel weights on the inside of the rims.

i think when snowman tried my wheels , i think about a 1/4" spacers is what was needed to run the stock wheels
ive got a pair of enkei 5 spokes that clear the wilwoods , that i think would clear the 13's no problem
there is a rim out there you just have to find it. lots of JDM companies make rims to fit larger brakes

Problem with using spacers, is then the wheel is not sitting on the hub, its relying A LOT on the studs, not exactly a good thing.
Ever think about finding a CNC specialist to machine the little bit of the rim that hits the caliper? It can't be hitting by much and you would get to retain use of your stock wheels and not need hub rings or anything else.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

It would be easier to grind some material off the caliper. Either way i'm still looking for rims that will fit without modification, i know they are out there.

i would think that a stock style wheel would work with a spacer.
you may need to put on longer studs, which seems like it woudnt be a problem for you. a stock style wheel has the drop center of the rim in the right position that would would need for this to work. alot of after market wheels have the drop center reversed from a stock style wheel and require the tire to be mounted with the spokes facing down rather than up.
i think you can do it without a problem, but longer studs and spacers may be necessary.

I have been looking for 16" wheels as well.. I have the ARP Fbody 2.5" wheel studs with 5/16" spacer.. Im going to see if I can borrow a buddies ls sport and Z rim to see if it fits on my 13" Baers as well..

Cool, let me know how that goes. You can always grind down a little of the caliper too for added clearance without hurting the structural integrity of the wheel.

Well crap, no luck with the 16" z24 rims, or LS sport rims... The caliper hits the top of the INSIDE of the rims closest to the front of the spokes.
This pic, the rim isnt even on ALL the way, its cockeyed because of the caliper.
Soo, I guess we still gotta look elsewhere.

Yeah, the studs arent even in the holes!
Contact CCW, they make wheels for mustangs and Supras that clear 13" brake kits. Thy might be able to help you out. Complete Custom Wheel is what ccw stand for. go to their online page and you might be able to get some info.

Your quest is going to end with some 17" wheels
get bigger rims cause it makes your car look like the late 90's grand prix with those brake dust covers....16's over sexy big brakes looks uber gay IMO
But in snow they are the only way to go. actualy 15's or 14's are best but 16's is the smallest capable of fitting those brakes.
I have the factory Opt 16" rims on my 04 Sunfire GT. I looked at another GT with the standard 16" rims. The rims I have have more room around the caliper if you could find one in your area you could give it a try. It may be what you need.

^^Do you have a picture of the wheel you have?
