Hello guys,
I would like to know one way, how i could get rid of my extra play in the shifter. Its very frustrating and i just want to have my shifter tight and firm. Please any information would be great. I have a 96 cav.
Call B&M. Tell them the problem and they should be able to offer a remedy.
User a thicker upper O-ring. That took care of it for me.
Hey wild weasel: where can i buy or find a thicker upper 0-ring?
The shift mechanism is still cheap plastic... b+m short shifter or not. Sorry, but it's never going to feel like it's not a cavalier.
You should be able to pick some up at any home depot. Check in the plumbing section for all sorts of O-rings. Bring yours along and fine one that's the same diameter but thicker.
one more question, weasel: I would like to know how can i take out the o-ring from the shifter?
listening in...

Have you made sure your cables are where the old ones were when you disassembled it?

this is for 00+ getrag
Rods or cables, you still need them properly adjusted.
If you're having actual trouble getting into gear, then this is probably the issue. This isn't the issue for play though.
To get to the upper O-ring, take off the boot and take off the top retaining ring. To remove it, you'll need to turn it so that the tabs are oriented with the wide parts of the openings. Then use a flat screwdriver and just jam it into the tabs to release them one at a time. Once two are released, you can take off the ring.
Check out step 8 in the instructions here:

That's what you need to take off. The instructions tell you to remove it from underneath, since the shifter is out of the car. You can easily remove it from the top as well so you can actually go to Home Depot... pop the ring off and take out your O-ring to take inside and find a match... then pop it back in when you get back to your car to leave.
weasel: My shifter isnt out of my car. And for the pictures regarding step 8 on your site, which picture is the o-ring? What the duration of taking out the o-ring and putting it back in? Could you help me to better undrstand, how to take the 0-ring out.
Thanks
ok, then how do i adjust them?
thanx!
Sorry to thread jack but what type of grease do you use on the ball joint? I have a 01 Z and a fidenza short throw. Thanks!

I think you misunderstood me. The instructions say to pop out the tabs from underneath. They say that because at that point in the install, the shifter is out of the car.
What I'm saying is that you can also remove it from the top, while the shifter is still in the car.
When you pop that retaining ring off, the upper O-ring will be right there on top. You'll see it.
As for what sort of grease to use... I have no idea. It came with the B&M shifter.
so how do i adjust them on my 97z?
btw, there is no upper or ;ower ring on the shifter for the isuzu.... i dunno if i can still add one tho!
