2002 Pontiac SunfireAbout This Vehicle:
This is my daily driver - I have a 58km (36 mile) commute each way to work, so it gets a decent amount of daily use.
I've also used the car for the past 6 years to tow my boat. It's only about 1,000 pounds but being a 16 foot open boat it's like dragging a parachute that's larger than the car. It doesn't exactly "like" it, but it's still going. Mileage is at 234,000km (about 145,000 miles) as of December 2008. Body Style: Sedan Color: Ultra Silver Metallic Engine: 2.2L I4 OHV Transmission: Manual Interior: Cloth/Grey Purchase Date: Feb. 16, 2002 Purchased From: Local dealer Build Date: Jan. 2002
Manufacturer Options
- CD player with 6 speakers - and nothing else. It's a Canadian model Sunfire SL - which equated to essentially the plainest car you could possibly buy in 2002. A/C - power windows - locks or cruise weren't even available options. It doesn't even have a front sway bar.
MODIFICATIONS
Engine:- Head rebuilt in Jan 07 - milled and bronze inserts for exhaust valve guides.
Exhaust valve had badly burnt on #3 requiring replacement at 175000km.
Suspension/Wheels/Brakes:- Kelly Magnagrip HT winter tires. I used to have the 16" GT rims for summer - but I had to give them back to my brother when he traded his car in earlier this year.
Interior:- Dual gage pod on A-pillar with Vacuum and Voltage gages.
Exterior:- Paint on hood modified by assorted flying objects (mainly rocks). Other parts are beginning to see similar modifications from similar objects.
Audio:- Pioneer head unit (CD only)
- MTX Blue Thunder 250 amp
- single 10" sub
Future:- Plan on removing the styrofoam inserts in the back doors to allow the windows to open fully. This is mainly to please my kids - who have never liked the "half open only" setup. Now it will be more like my '65.
