If there is a God, why does he test us?
It seems like total crap to me.

Thats one thing I never really understood either. If god is ALL loving then why would he test us? We as humans compared to god are pretty basic and stupid right? As humans though we have realized that tempting someone into doing something wrong then punishing them is wrong (police entrapment). Some will say that god wants us to make the right choice but why tempt us in the first place?

god is an entirely human-created entity...therefore, there is no god.

Like many things God does, it is so that we can see our own failings.
It is an open book test, anyone can pass. Many will fail, that is just to remind us we are not perfect. Same goes for sin, we do sin, we need to recognise that sin so that we will be humble.
Anyone who thinks they are perfect will be an unrepentant sinner.

Think of it as a test you know you can't pass but its done to gauge your progress and see where you are in your life.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
My opinion.... "choice".... I think Earth is Hell. God gives us the choice to choose were we want to be. He opens his arms and waits for you to make the choice to except him as your savior. Would you make someone love you if they really didn't want to be with you???? Same principle applys here. Once again just my opinion.

I think the purpose of life is to learn a set of lessons during your lifetime. There are many lessons of life, so therefore if you do not learn all of t hem that you need/want to learn, you go back and live another life under different circumstances to learn those lessons. I really don't think there are any 'tests' persay, just experiences that teach you the lessons you were destined to learn since birth.
The bad things that happen aren't God's fault, they are because of sin. Before sin there was no pain or death or disease. When sin entered the world through man it screwed things up. We are the ones who messed stuff up, so don't blame God for your problems. I know some problems can seem to difficult at the time, but in the end they can help you. It just depends on what you want. Do you want an easy life or do you want to have your character built?

The Bible wrote:Psalm 139:16: Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there were none of them.
The Bible also wrote:Job 14:5:
Since his days are determined,
and the number of his months is with you,
and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass.
The Bible also wrote:Proverbs 20:24: A man's steps are from the LORD;
how then can man understand his way?
If everything is already planned out and known, then HOW can we have a choice? That would make choice an illusion, so we have no control over our own lives.

^^^^Do you know how many different versions and revisions of the bible there is. As much as it has been changed I dont see how anyone can quote it anymore.

Just because God knows the outcome doesn't mean you don't have a choice. I'm sure that you have friends you know very well, offer one of them 100 bucks or a punch in the face. Lets take a hypothetical scenario. Take your closest friend, the one you know the best. Offer that friend either 100 dollars or getting hit in the head with a baseball bat. You know him well enough to know he'd want 100 bucks instead of a head wound. Even thought you know that he'll take the money it doesn't take away his choice to choose between the two. God offers us great things all the time.... but most of the time we choose the baseball bat.

Most of the time we get the baseball bat no matter what.

I like to see one of you prove that god exists

The Babelfish conclusively proves that God doesn't exist.

As a student in an ethical reasoning class, I found this topic quite intriguing to talk about. My professor. always gave the class some "plausible" reasons why God does not exist (however only plausible to the human mind...think about that). Such as the reason stated above which informs us that if God is omniescient (meaning he knows all things that happens, millions of year before it happens) than how can we truly choose to have a burger with beef or with chicken (how could we make that choice if God already knows what were gonna do). In another sense, how can we prevent evil? If god already knows we will commit evil. Its arguements like these that seem quite compelling to me however I must provide my own insight. Although most believers probably appeal to popularity, and believe god is out there since everone else is doing it yet dont know why they believe; we must never neglect the fact that there are also plausible arguments that god does exists. And the one that cannot be justified by Atheists is the fact that "life can simply be a test". God might want humans to be "thinking" which is why we are probably the most conscious animals out there and no animals with the exception of the limitedness in chimps are like us. Think about that? Why are humans much more adaptive then other animals and have survived unlike Dinosaurs? You must never neglect the fact that not all animals think alike or act alike. For example, other animals might have their own ways of praying that humans cannot comprehend. Not all animals resemble humans nor could they ever. Chimps cannot talk, not because they dont know how, rather they lack the biological mechanism (larenx) which allows them to speak like we do. Considering all that,, life might simply be a test. God wants us to think, and make the decisions of right and wrong in order to preserve a happier afterlife. Lets face it, its a 50/50 split. You either die, and everything goes pitchblack; and its peaceful because when you dye you dont have consciousness to know your dead. Or your sins get judged. If you ask why there is a test? Well, the fact that you ask shows the bright intellect and consciouness of the human mind, but could you ever assume that the reason why is because humans really dont know much about life itself, and our consciouness might be limited relative to othre species out there (extraterristerial). This is just an assumption, but I bet you, if you were another animal, humans "talking" would probably sound like nonesense because your in a diffrent state of consciouness.
And seriously life is a "hard" test, think about it, what if God gave us consciouness to make us think about our anwsers (in other words our sins). Without consciouness fueling our skeptisms, the test of life God imposed, would be to easy.
I do apologize, I was typing pretty fast up there and noted alot of mistakes, if you could not decipher my MAIN point, well I seriously think that humans lack the ability to really acknowledge why were here. And that lack of consciouness might be the reason why we cannot anwser the Big Five questions of life. Why are we here? What will become of us? etc. etc. So the ones who pass the test are the ones who truly believe and God and respect the teachings of whatever faith he/she pursues. And choosing that "correct" faith is the main task at hand...the "test". THATS WHY GOD GAVE US CONSCIOUNESS>>AND THE ABILITY TO QUESTION!
The Proof to the Non-existence of God
'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'
'But,' says Man, 'The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.'
'Oh dear,' says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly disappears in a puff of logic.

i have little of substance to offer, but i must confess my head hurts. i think the pains started coming along the time the baseball bat hit my head? but on to my point. stop asking for people to prove god doesn't exist. you're asserting a belief, not those of us who don't believe. the burden of proof is on you. it's like if i said that the smurfs created the universe and control everything we do. you'd call me crazy. and then i'd tell you to prove me wrong. and you'd tell me that's impossible. because, really, can you prove that the smurfs didn't create the universe? and then i would tell you that you have to have faith in the word of the smurfs. you can't know that they exist, you have to believe it in your heart. this is ludicrous and probably a harsh comparison, but it's how i feel.
upon further review, i realized i didn't bother to answer the original question. the whole idea of god testing us is one of the things that led me to atheism. if god is this omnipresent omnipotent entity then there are no choices. there is absolutely no point of a test because he knows the outcome. i've heard people argue that you have to prove your love to god and realize your sins and all this, but it always comes back to the fact that god already knows whether you love him or not. he knows if you have truly realized your sin and if you have passed his "test" before it ever happens. so what's the point? why create the earth? why create the universe? why create humans? why create other animals and science and logic and all these things? so we can further ourselves? but why? he knows how it ends. he knows where science ultimately leads us. it's like we're his little play things. we have no choices because if he is all-knowing. it's not a choice if it's already been determined. life happens. bad stuff happens to good people. good things happen to horrible people. live your life and stop worrying about god's test because i assure you there is no test. and if there is, then you have no control over it. everything you do or say or choose has already been determined. god knows how it ends. so why bother? i live my life because it's all i have. when it's over i'm going to rot in the ground. that's it. and i can tell you this, people can be just as "moral" without god. in fact, the few atheists i know are far better people (ethically and morally speaking) than any of my religious friends. but that's just my crappy two cents, worth just that and nothing more.
