Chevron - Muderous Company?

Found this on boingboing.net (great site)..

Chevron being sued in US for hiring Nigerian death squads
My cow-orker Cindy Cohn is not only EFF's Legal Director, she's also counsel for one of the survivors of a small village in Nigeria that was attacked by a government death squad that Chevron hired to clear the way for oil exploration. Chevron's now being sued in a US court in a case that has gone farther than anyone dared hope it would -- maybe all the way to a guilty verdict.

The bodies of the dead Nigerian villagers had not yet grown cold when the Nigerian navy captain presented Chevron with a bill: 15,000 naira, or $165 for responding to ``attacks from Opia village against security agents.''

Within 24 hours Chevron paid up. It would be years before the San Ramon-based energy company would acknowledge the role it played in the destruction of Opia and another small village called Ikenyan in Nigeria's oil-rich delta in January 1999.

...this is news to you?

The value of human life is a lot less than the value of a piece of linen paper with black and green ink on it. You may hate it, but you have to accept it. there are some sick @!#$ out there that devalue life that much, and unless we kill them and stop them from breeding.

Too bad you can't put that blood in a gas tank. If you figure a small village contained 200 adults, and the average adult holds 10 pints of blood (I looked it up on google), that only comes out to $1.51 a gallon, if you go by the Chevron standard........hey, it's cheaper than Unleaded.

Just to be clear. A death squad cleared a village (two actually, but this is about one of them) and billed Chevron $165USD for the job.

I wanted to avoid the word "chraged" as that kinda sounds like a fine. They payed for a service from the local navy. It was dirt cheap.. I can't believe such a low price can get a whole village killed. Heck the ordanence required would have cost close to that.

So dirty, so low.. Depressing.

We're @!#$ doomed Hahahaha.

I don't know if its the fact that I've worked forensics, but anyone that thinks that life is sacred needs to take off the rose coloured glasses... death is dealt wholesale.

The ordinance for the death squads probably was on hand, and probably soviet so it's dirt cheap. Hell in most places in africa and the mid-east, you can get your hands on a Kalashnikov and banana magazines (or snail-shell magazines) easier than you can on clean water.

That's just disgusting if it's 100% true. If it is I hope Chevron gets flushed down the crapper.

If chevron got flushed, Oil would jump to about $75 a barrel.

It's headed for $100 anyway.. If they are doing what it looks like they are doing, they gotta go. That kind of crap shouldn't be happening in this century. Alas, I bet it gets worse before it gets better.

Ever heard of a megacorp?

There's hundreds of them. De Beers was just the beginning.
