18 soldiers dead..... honestly why is america still in IRAQ, i was watching CNN and it said 57% of americans say the war was a waste, and i agree......... im canadian, and I have NO PROBLEMS with an american civilian, I actually get upset when i hear american soldiers dyin... canada/usa are good allies whether or not you guys agree, and you wouldve agreed if we went to war with you...... but now that the war is almost proven to be a mistake because of nearing 2,000 american soldiers dead goes to show from a opposing perspective that it was a bad decision....... not because of the american people, but because of BUSH, I dont like him at all.......
when do you guys think USA will withdrawl from the battles? because avg. 2 soldiers are dying a day over there....... and the insurgents are increasing day by day..........
Im not a "know it all" but I was just curious on what u guys think,.... im sure ill get some people agreeing with me, and people who totally disagree
Maybe you should just try to get EDUCATED on where the copter was actually shot down.
Once you do that you may continue on with the thread.
"Im canadian" speaks volumes.
also, according to CNN,
"The status of the service members is unknown at this time."
"Rescuers have surrounded the crash site in the Hindu Kush mountains west of Asadabad, in the eastern part of the country, but have not seen any bodies or recovered any injured. "

America is still in Iraq for 2 reasons (well 3 if you combine the two):
(1) Bush doesn't want to be the first President to lose a war that HE started. Loss being mission NOT accomplished (i.e. no WMDs, no links to Al Qaeda). A war based on false pretense cannot be won simply because there is no clearly defined mission to complete.
(2) Bush wants to leave the mess in Iraq for the Dems in 2008, and then blame them for loosing the war when they bring the troops home.
In the event that you ever go to war, you find out the press is full of crap. They post and twist what stories they get to make something dramatic and good for t.v. The media really dont know what they are talking about. Trust me I have been to war, and I have seen the media from when I was over there, 98% of it is BS.

maybe u need to start reading the whole story before u blame us being in Iraq
im sick of people bitching about the war, get over it, were there wether you like it or not, were not going to pull out, probably never (we still had troops in korea for like 50 years)

this why
People trend forget what Iraq was like Before we got there.
People tend to thank us daily, Things you never see in the Media
2000 Soldiers Dead compared 200,000 Is the price we pay for freedom
People tend to forget that links to 9/11 were right through IRAQ. and taking out a tyrant like Sadam was a blessing, Funny isnt it that during the Olympics the Iraqi Soccer team carried and American Flag when they won thier games?

Yes there are bad sections of Iraq, but you know what 2 servicemembers a day, because not just solidiers are dying Marines, Sailors and Airmen are dying too, while it is 2 too many is not bad considering that the security vehicles alone, have 20-25 troops depending on whether there are 4 or 5 security vehicles, and you have to have a minimum of 4 vehicles to go outside the wire. There are nowhere near as many attacks as the media wants you to think there are. I went on 16 convoys over 6 months, and I never got attacked once, no small arms fire, no RPGs, no IEDs, nothing, that includes the 2 full days I spent in the center of Fallujah immediately following the Battle of Fallujah. We took maybe 5 mortar attacks in the last 3 months I was there, that's it, Iraq is nothing like the US Media wants you to think it's like.
The only thing the media is good for is to Second Guess the President, not just Bush any president, and get good Marines and Soldiers on the ground killed.

When has a person in the media gotten a soldier killed? Not being argumentative, I seriously want to know.
If not for the media, there would be only government releases on what was happening, and frankly, I've read too many Orwell works to trust un-substantiated numbers.
Also, if not for the media, people wouldn't be able to see the good things that are happening. It's a double edged sword that a lot of people were getting excited over when the first part of the war happened, now, it's still there... like it or not, but what you and every other soldier is doing over there is being viewed, and frankly, "if it bleeds, it leads" is still said now as it was said 60 years ago...
Brendan:
Check your facts and post a link to the story if you please
And mrgto is definitely a live one... not much on the insult front either. As if Canadian and Liberal are derrogitory terms.
Borsty:
The point was to not go into Iraq in the first place. Seriously, the human rights bit is bull@!#$, and fragrant at that.
Once you're in, you're there for the loooong haul. Thank the President for dragging your military and tax dollars into an unnecessary and expensive little war. Iraq is basically going to be annexed to the USA because of the USA *NOT THE UN* holding them liable for over 300 billion dollars of reparations to Kuwait (which BTW, reconstruction was paid for by UN relief funding).
At this point, You're not going to see an end to occupation for at least 10 years.
And Korea was not JUST the USA, it was a UN mission. The UN was in Greece and Turkey keeping them from killing each other for about 50 years as well... It's called Peace-keeping, and it's part of the duties of being a UN member nation.

Disagree, Stupid Jeraldo Nearly got a group of the US soldiers and Marines killed by Giving away thier position on TV, Sadams henchman even said the best intel they had was from CNN, So saying that News reporters are not responsible for some deaths is little hard to believe. Being that if was not for the press Why would a terrorist or Militant even bother blowing himself up? If nobody heard of it, what would be the point?

Terrorists work on theatrical expressions. If it weren't for the press would Nick Berg et al, be alive? No, they'd be just as dead.
And, you'd still have soldiers dying.
Was Geraldo broadcasting live? Again, I don't know the exact information. And, correct me if I'm wrong, he was working for FOX at the time, wasn't he? Tour of Terror?

But gam, were already there, its moot to even complain about it, we went in, mistake or not, now we are in for the long haul, instead of people bitching we could just support the government and the troops.
(even if that would make a next war easier to get into, but if america wants to go to war were goin to war, no amount of protesting will stop it)

That, I agree with, and I've said more than a few times, even once in this very thread
[Qutoe]instead of people bitching we could just support the government and the troops.
Your government isn't acting in your best interests. They are acting in the interests of several very powerful MNC's and their own interest. You won't see any positive benefits from the war in Iraq... Gas will not be cheaper, your taxes will likely stay where they are (best case scenario) or go up to finance the war and the drag your president's spending has imposed on the economy (record Defecits, record debts, poor Social Security reform ideals (I'd trust Alan Greenspan over whoever thought up this Soc.Sec.savings idea)).
That doesn't sound like a government that is acting in your best interests.

AMERICA didn't want to go to war before the build up. It was pretty evenly divided. Even now, CNN polled a week ago asking if they think that going into Iraq was a good idea knowing that there was no WMD's found, about 55% of people said no, and 15% refused to answer.
You can draw your own inferences from that (and if I could find a bloody link to that poll I'd post it, damned CNN).
Transeat In Exemplum: Let this stand as the example.
America didnt want to go to war.
but the government did. the government gets what they want, all the time, your not goin to stop the government, if they want to do something, they will.

Until you vote for someone that puts the electorate's concerns above that of corporate and party interests.
Maybe it's time to listen to the first George of the USA (Washington that is
) and abolish political parties altogether... fat chance on doing that.

poltical parties as much as they suck are more good then bad.
then any dip@!#$ could become president and screw it up.

Look I dont know where you think your living, But more people are today emplayed then at any other time in the USA, Who said anyone has to live in the Ghetto? Common Man get a grip, If you want communism where everyone is the same then Move to country that supports it. If you want the opportunity to succeed then stay. Ghetto thought process like yours is a product of the enviroment , not inherent. So saying that if People want to get out of thier situation then change it, I did.

The only thing every single person from every single walk of life on earth can truly say
they have in common is that their country is run by a bunch of fargin iceholes.
GAM, the media tends to not know what they can and can't report on, they tend to give too much information as to the whereabouts of troops, and what they are doing. It's been a problem since Vietnam when Reporters were first allowed to be embedded with the troops. Also another problem is that when reporters get embedded with the troops that is one less person with a weapon that can go on the Convoy, and one more person that the Commander has to worry about and protect.

You fail to make a point for political parties. LOL.
Honestly I fail to see the benefit of them. I can't help but think that this nation would be run much nicer and smoother without them. Someone introduces a bill, debate occurs, each individual votes on what THEY BELIEVE, with no pressure to vote with your party(or along any other lines). No allies/enemys except on a case by case(bill by bill) basis.
Also, no more of this Us vs Them
!! When you(the voter) vote, you can't vote for whoever is the Democat or Republican(
people who do that should be shot IMO - I'm serious) - you vote for whoever is the best choice.
Will this ever happen? Yeah sure it will - in my dreams.

Do you know what those two tings have in common? They are myths!!
Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11. Granted Saddam is an @!#$ and was no doubt laughing his ass off - but he had nothing to do with it. When you say Iraq, maybe you mean Iran? You see because unlike Iraq, Iran WAS involved in getting several of the hijackers here. This has been proven a long time ago. It's quite old news. Don't take my word for it - Look it up.
