why do some americans think canadians are uncivilized.......
I just got back from california, and had the greatest time, im from ontario....... everyone me and my buddys met were cool and had an amazing experience they had a great time with us too........
but I just dont get it, some of the southern states think canada is all about igloos and @!#$ and that we're uncivilzed and blah blah blah. I havenever seen an igloo, and for the record its 30 degrees celcius here today which is liek what mid 80's? farenheit?..... hey I like americans, but I think its f00ked up how some ppl run their mouths......
point is all of us plopped out of our mothers pussys on the soil where we live...... so take it for what it is......I love canada, and I love the United states, except for bush....... any haters on canada ?
and dont even say its over the stupid war, cause it was proven to be a waste of time.......
why am I such a bad person??
I live in Canada and I hate it
j/k I don't really hate people from any place, I hate certain people, yes, but it has nothing to do with geography.

Well, i think Canada is actually MORE civilized than America. I mean, America + Civilized = *DOES NOT COMPUTE".

1 - i've never been to canada, but i've built igloos before. hooooray winter of 92(or was it 93?).
2 - i WISH it were nice and cool like that down here. we hit triple digits FAHRENHEIT today.
pirates kick ninja asses, f00
I'm beginning to really dislike Winnipeg.
People here can't drive.
Not that they have the chance, you know, with a traffic light every block.
But that's another thread.
Personally, I like the States. Everytime I've been, everyone has been great. I was treated worse after I got back from the US. Go figure.
I like canada. And I'm freakin mexican. well... I was born in the us.....
Does that mean my opinion is worth @!#$?

Some people are ignorant... that's something that everyone deals with everywhere. SOME of the ignorant ones want to try to edjukayt you.
My olny advice: smile and nod. They'll get the hint that you know they're full of s#!%, and they'll stop trying to tell you they're not full of s#!%, and you can both go on thinking the other is full of S#!% no matter what they think of you.
Anyhow..
30 degrees celsius is actually 92 farenheit.
I have built an Igloo properly (the last time I saw an american try to build one, the opening was on the windward side of the hut, which is the wrong way... leeward all the way), Winnipeg is awful to drive in because there are pot-holes that swallow up semi-tractors whole and the mosquitoes tend to make off with SUVs, and people don't drive in Winnipeg, they aim and pray.
I for one don't mind travelling in the US, but from the cities I've been in for any length of time (ie. NYC, Houston, Miami, Detroit, Los Angeles, Dallas, Las Vegas and Shreveport) Most were a little too.. I don't know.. tense? Going to a decent restaraunt and the one table with black people gets stared at for some weird reason, and if I was in a restaraunt that whose clientele is predominantly black, I'd get looked at as being weird... (more than once I wanted to say in either situation "Are you here to GAWK or are you here to EAT?" Ruined more than a few meals... and that's a bloody shame.)
I hated the fact that I'd get these ominous little warnings to stay out of some areas after dark, etc. because the niggers/spics whatever would rob you or whatever. I hate having to stay in my hotel room because I don't know the lay of the land... I hated that the one stupid time I got pulled over for speeding, the officer had his pistol drawn, and proceeded to search my rented car and bags without asking permission or stating cause (this was in Shreveport, apparently the 4th ammendment doesn't apply in LA *shrug* at least he didn't search long... having to fly somewhat regularly, you learn to put the dirty laundry on TOP
).
Anyhow, I think that Americans are great people on the most part, but I think that if everyone would actually just re-bloody-lax for a bit and not worry about the neighbours, and just get on with living, there'd be a really good life there. I know a few colleagues from Compaq (in Houston and Dallas), and now from other Law Enforcement Agencies in the US that come to Canada for whatever reason end up really liking that there is a lot less crime, Summertime is nice and warm (usually), and while there is racism, it's not really up and in your face all the time. Polite racism it a term I've used before. You can't get the ignorance out of some people, but you can certainly treat people you irrationally hate with decency: money is the same from a black person as it is from a white person.
Both countries can learn a thing or two about the other, but that's just my little opinion.

I love the states.
Beats the crap outta Canada to all high hell.
Give me Texas.
meh.. you just want a GTO too.. you can admit it Jinxed

Depends on where you are...
Fallen Angel and I were talking awhile back about the last time she visited Seattle. She said that compared to out east--people are much more relaxed--i kinda notice it in the car clubs--there seems to be a lot less drama.
As for Canadians, there are some that are downright @!#$S! and there are some that are pretty good. But the same could be said for Americans too.
Still, something that i was reminded of when my freind Miska came out from Slovakia, and that helps remembering--when it comes down to it, everyone everywhere is pretty much the same--a few winners--a whole lot of losers.

I heard from a coworker who is from Canada, said that British Columbia when he visited a few weeks ago on a cruise up to alaska out of seattle, that people there are more social and relaxed. He is from Ontario. I don't notice any of that here in the OC of California. People are hard to get to know, maybe that has to do with the cost of living here and people always being so busy they have to rush.
Smile, Jesus loves you!!!!! <><
Manchild-ProPain, out now, Sphereofhiphop.com
Yerah...it seems that the NW of the states and the SW of canda is very relaxed compared to elsewhere.
Part of the reason i like it here--no one complains if you're what the rednecks liek to call, "A Weird Summbitch"

Well, as much as I want a GTO, I would still rather live here and not get then move somewhere else and be able to get one.
Uncivilized? Maybe a little, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

**there is only one true love in my life... and my girlfriend has learned to live with it**
I heard stuff like that a lot when I was Atlanta a few years ago about the dog sleds, igloos and hunting for my food but I find it funny more than anything. I'll actually go along with it. Its way more fun that way. However, when I hear people from Buffalo or Detroit talking about how cold Canada is and stuff like that its just sad. Sure there are people here who do live in igloos and travel by dog sled to hunt food just like americans have pickup trucks with gun racks. Even though we have american history and geography in school some how I doubt they teach anything about Canada in the U.S.
The think you don't hear too often: Canada gets as hot as Miami and as cold as Moscow. At least here in Ottawa it does.. damned muggy.
cmsz24: Yeah, there are some things taught about Canada in US schools, just not enough that anyone gets educated about the war of 1812, the peaceful confederation of Canada, the Fact that Norse landed in Canada first, the 3 times the US armies got beaten back out of Canada and the fact that there's a Whitehouse is owed to the white wash given it after Loyalist troops lit up the presidential residence.

See ya down there JinxedZ.
It's okay, I actually has someone once ask me during the height of the grunge movement, that since Rockstars in the Pac. NW were wearing flannel shirts and baggy jeans, that if now the lumberjacks up here wore leather pants and aqua-het hairstyles.
it made me laugh...

GAM: I am not waiting 15 years, I have given up on it for now. Right now, I am looking tp buy a new 4x4 to replace my old Siverado. Maybe next year I will think about a sports/muscle car, but I am also saving to build a house too, and well, there is only so much money. We'll see how the next 5 years play out for me.

Although I'm pretty old and school is ancient history for me, I do recall learning some things about Canada in my younger days. Admittedly, it wasn't much and it certainly was biased in it's presentation but it wasn't completely lacking. That being said, I believe that a lot of people focus on what they see or hear in the media. As an example, Bob and Doug MacKenzie (Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis (sp?)) singing about the Great White North comes to mind. Funny stuff!
My personal experience with Canadians is pretty extensive as I've worked (based in Dallas) for a large multinational telecommunications company headquartered near Toronto for the last 19 years. I've spent a lot of time in Canada for business and I've worked with or for Canadians for this entire period. In general, I find the Canadians that I work with have a much better world view than the average U.S. citizen. They seem to be better educated about the U.S. politically and historically than many here are about Canada. For the most part, they have been good people to work with and have helped me to broaden my own world view.

We pretty much have to be knowledgeable about the US and the politics because our economies are joined at the hip.
I've worked with a lot of Americans (Used to work with Compaq, and now I work sometimes with the FBI) and I've said before, on the whole a great bunch of people, but like here, always one or two asses that screw it up for everyone else. I do have to say that a lot of people I met were really stressed out about their jobs etc. everything was getting them jumpy. My only advice ever to them was to turn off the TV... if trouble comes, deal with it, but otherwise there's no sense worrying about it and getting upset.
The same people were a lot more relaxed when they came here (except the poor texan sods that had to deal with 2 feet of snow dumped on us in a week and the -30 celsius temps... ). One or two of the black people I worked with actually commented on how it's a lot more relaxed racially here (one of my immediate superiors was black, and my team had 3-4 non-whites, and everyone pretty much got along, when there were problems there weren't hateful words exchanged). Again, no happy little oasis, but it's a lot more subdued.. I guess it's hard to be hateful when you're freezing your keister off.
Somethings are not taught in US highschools about the world, and I think that's pretty sad... I got European history, 20th Century History and US History in HS, and a whack of Canadian history in Grade school, so we learned about US aggressions into Canadian territory very early, and we also learned about British Loyalists repelling the advances despite being outmanned and outgunned. We also learned why the whitehouse is white, and not grey (as it was when it was built).
I think we also learn tolerance, but I can't tell if that's something we picked up along the way or if people just have different values on this side of the border. Not to say that intollerance is learned at school...
I'm gonna quit now before I put my foot in my mouth.
