Just as the topic states? Is weed really addicting? What do you guys think? Personally I think its B.S. I dont even smoke weed anymore. I understand the whole "Its a gate way drug thing" but does that mean its addicting. Me and some friends use to hang out and we smoked pot....a lot. I use to smoke mad bags of weed, lol. Lot of my friends did move on to other drugs. I never did. I met my wife and started dating her. I quickly fell in love with her and she hated the fact that I smoked weed. So I up and quit cold turkey and haven't smoked weed in about 4 years.
I would just like your opinon on it. I'm not defending it or condoning it in any way. I do however think it is not addicting.
i think the whole gateway drug thing is BS. i smoked weed a lot back when i was younger, i never had the desire to try something else. i was offered but i always said no. and i dont think weed is addicting either
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
99redz thats exactly how I was. I never tried anything else, but I understand a lot do. They say the actual drug is not addicting. Its the high you are addicted to. Still think its B.S.
Marijuana is not in and of itself addicting, but it does cause brain chemistry to alter in the long run. the Drug is not physically addicting, but the brain comes to rely on the THC being there.
As far as a gateway drug theory, the Idea cuts both ways, You yourself may not have had the urge to go on but most people that DO move on to harder drugs usually start with alcohol and weed.
Better not to depend on it... you might have to submit to a drug test in a police state, and then you're un the creek.

They had to start with something. They likely smoked cigarettes too.. I think milk is the gateway, or perhaps air..
I started on breastmilk, since them I have put on nearly 150lbs, and I doubt I will ever be able to stop eating.. I do it every day.. I have a problem.
All sarcasm aside. The exposure to the blackmarket and underworld characters is likely has a stronger "gateway" effect than the canabis itself.
PAX
Point...
That's why I think decriminalising Marijuana and selling it in a coffee house or what not like in Netherlands is a good idea... it takes the mystique out of it, and it effectively takes it out of the hands of kids. Harder to get cigarettes and alcohol from a retailler that wants to keep their business license than it is to get weed from a dealer that doesn't care who he sells to.

When it comes to weed I don't think addicted is the right word but I don't know what else to use. I know it's not physically addictive but mentally pretty much anything can be addictive, just look at gambling. Many people become addicted to alcohol but not all, even the ones who drink allot, can up and quit if the want to.

weed is no more addicting than anything else, im hooked on beer, but only in my mind, not body, i stopped that for over a year in iraq, so my body is not hooked, weed is the same way, i used to smoke a 20 sack every day, but now im clean..........for now, it doesn't bother me, i don't care, it was fun, but for now the past is the past

The drug itself is not addicting... the problem is the extent to which the user smokes it... potheads have their lives affected by the drug as in personality changes, lack of drive and laziness... they are addicted to the high (i.e. "I smoke after work to ease the stress") If you need a controlled substance to ease the stress you either need a hobby or a new job
I myself don't smoke but I see it all around me thats for sure.
i smoke weed every @!#$in day, 4-6 blunts a day, and if im really feeling froggy ill smoke about 8-10. Weed is NOT addicting, BUT getting HIGH is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE>
Under Construction
I think a lot of it depends upon your personality, your "addictive tendencies", if you will.

That doesn't really make sense
Please explain how that doesn't make sense? They say its addicting...I say its B.S. I use to smoke weed and I just quit cold turkey. I dont know how to put it any less complicated.
So that means alcohol isn't addictive I drink but I am not addicted therefore it can't be addictive. My friend has flown all over the world the plane had never crashed so does that mean that planes don't crash?
Like I said in my other post I don't think addiction is quite the right word when it comes to weed due to the lack of physical addiction but some people do become dependent.

I couldnt ever get high off it so i never wanted it again

ok i havent read the other post on in there cuz i dont wanna but long story short, weed is mentally addicting, which means you think you need it but you really dont kinda like buying lottory tickets you think you do you have to cuz your addicted but you dont.....on the other hand a stronger drug like coke is, because of the fact that it produces endrophine which is the pain killer your body makes naturally, so if you take it after a short period of time your brain stops producing anymore endrophine cuz the coke is making it all, so when you stop you feel pain, and then you'll need more coke, making you addicted to coke.....the end.....take a pshyology class you'll learn all about it

Actually Cocaine doesn't stimulate endorphins, it alters blood chemistry and brain chemistry by extraction.
Same thing with Marijuana, the THC in the weed manipulates PH level in several cortexes that brings about a sense of calm. It actually retards the brain's production of L-dopa and dopamine. It also affects serotonin levels, which is the reason some good skunk or northern lights makes you a little hungry.

lol this is a nice subject. I can say I used to be into weed and no it's not really addictive. all depends how you looks at it I guess. Some people depend on things more than others. And as far as being a gateway drug? well maybe we shouldn't go there because yes I agree it is lol partically from experience but lets leave it at that! Just enjoying the beer now...
"Hick's can own J'body's too"
the substance addicting i say no, you being "addicted" to the high yes, so its more of a mental than a chemical dependency like other drugs, so it can be overcome more easily. Gatewya, depends on the person, ive been offerend, coke, crack, x, shrooms, and i havent had the drive to try any even though they are all readily available. Some of my friends have, as they find the high inst enough, i think it is. Gateway seems to come into place with addicts not users, i feel there is a diff. between a user and an addict.

i dont smoke weed or nayhting.but going fast is a high so i cna see were you would become addicted to it.its like driving fast.never wanna try it though dont wanna see what happens.im dumb enough as i am without the weed
ive been smoking weed since i was 13. im now 21, in my eight years, i would say that weed is not physically addictive, at all, there are no physical withdrawl signs and no physical needs, however, their is a mental addiction that varis from person to person based on how much they smoke, the kind of weed they smoke and how they smoke.
as it being a gateway, i used to say no its not. and depending on the person and the source of the weed, its not. but depending on where it comes from, you might be introduced to other drugs, if the people you smoke with start doing other drugs, chances are, eventually you will try them. now that stops once you reach a certain age. a lot of people who make it to 22-23 maybe a little older, usually tend to not have desires to do other drugs.
i smoke weed for 7 yeas before i did any other drugs. since march of 04, other than weed, ive tried extasy 5 times, acid 2, shrooms 5, tweek 1, ketamine 5, coke - too many times to count, and i might have missed something. now i have no desire to do many of those again, acid, tweek, coke, but the others are great are only used recreationally and usually in combanation with the others, the weed wasnt necessarrily a gateway drug, cause i wanted to try everything i did, except for tweek, that @!#$ is nasty. and i will most likely never do the stuff i dont want to again, i have no desire at this time.
weed is mentally addictive, not physically and the gateway part depends on may circumstances and the person.
Sigga what?
weed is not addicting, I smoked weed for about 6 years and one day just said, @!#$ it i don't like this anymore... i haven't smoked in a year or so.. and i don't have the urge to and i didn't have the urge to.
ALL ADDICTIONS ARE IN YOUR HEAD MAN......
what is tweek? i dont think ive ever heard that before.....just curious
tweek = Meth-amphetamines, also called Crank.
It keeps you awake for hours on end.
