how would i go about removing the door trim piece on the outside of the door, i just picked up a door for my cavalier and it has the trim piece, i don't want to damage the door so has anybody else done this?
If you're talking about the flat molding on the outside intended to prevent door dings and such, all you have to do is use some fishing line and move it in a sawing motion behind it. The molding is held on with double sided foam tape, and the fishing line will basically cut it.
After you have it off, you can use an eraser wheel found at auto body supply shops to finish removing the foam tape.
I personally use 30 lb test line because it doesn't break as easily as light line. I think I got it at walmart for under $3. You'll want to use a monofilament line, or similar. Stay away from any stainless braided line or something else that uses metal.
If you have any more questions, ask away.
