Hi
I'm sure this is not a new subject, but I have questions regarding Cavaliers and HID.
1-I noticed on HID kit ads that there are several types of HID kits:
-single beam xenon
-bi-xenon
-Hi/Lo
Which one of these fits on a Cavalier?
2-If I purchase a full kit with installation manual and stuff, should that be enough for me to do the work?
3-I'm looking at two potential places to buy the kit: a local warehouse selling them through craiglist for 100CAD, and a warehouse selling them in the States through ebay for 80USD (40+40S&H).
-Ebay ad link
-craigslist ad link
Thank you in advance for your responses.
buy from ddm tuning, best prices around. Hi-Lo is for 9007 and other bulbs that have hi and low in one bulb. As far as single and bixenon im not sure of the difference, but bixenon seems to be most popular.
difference between single and bixenon is that if the car is wired to have a bulb for low and another bulb for high, in that case you have the choice to get single, which will make your low xenon and high same as before, or you could get bixenon which will make both your low and high xenon(it's actually one bulb, but when you activate high, a small magnet moves the bulb a bit higher so it can point like a high)
but i don't know what the cavalier is!! i have a 2001 cavalier coupe. do I have a single bulb for low/high or two separate bulbs?

Not to point out the obvious but HOW ABOUT LOOKING AT YOUR HEADLIGHTS!
Single bulb please step away from the buy it now button, if you can't figure out that then you should cease all efforts.
Ok I have a single. And yes I admit laziness of not just looking at the headlights. But I like to read up a lot about a subject before going ahead and touching anything in the car, just like I did with a few mods I did inside the car.
Ok, now since I have a single bulb, is the info that I mentioned above correct about the HID kit?
Also, what happens when you install a Hi/Lo?
Are your DRLs regular halogen, but your driving lights HID, and the high beams HID?
Thanks.

2 Waterproof Xenon HID Bulbs
2 Waterproof Universal Ballasts

One Year Manufacturer Warranty
Japan parts
Which one of these are the relay?
From youtube I understand there must be a relay installed and we must take positive directly from the battery and through the relay to the ballasts, and then each ballast will be grounded to the frame of the vehicle.
Also, I asked the craigslist guy about the kid and he said my car would need a bi-xenon for $125.
But my question is this: we have three light modes for our bulbs: DRLs, driving lights(low), and high beams. Would there be any problem regarding this?
Sorry for all the questions. If I get enough knowledge on this topic I WILL make an HID faq to be stickied and avoid future queries similar to mine. I'm just finding it so hard to find the info.
You dont seem to be listening, buy your HIDs from DDM, not EGay. $40 and a lifetime warranty.

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

OK so DDM tuning it is (or die
)
But is this enough to run the HIDs?
-2 Fullsize Raptor Ballast
-2 HID Bulbs
I mean the other two lists had in extra: brackets and power connectors. Unless that is included in the Raptor ballast from DDM?
And my question still remains regarding the relay. Do all kits come with a relay, or is that something optional? And if it is optional, what is its purpose?
See how they give the option to buy a "Dual in/Dual out HID Harness"?
What does this do, and do I have to have it? Is it just another name for the "relay"?
so for a 01 cav a ddm hid slim ballast 35 w 9007 hi/low 4500k bulb is all i need for a compleat conversion? i wont need any hidden things?
That's what I'm trying to find out...
Because on youtube and other diagrams I see sometimes they connect a "relay" which I still don't know what it is. In other places I don't see this "relay".
Also on ddm they offer an optional dual in/dual out hid harness, which I don't know what it is and what it does, and if I need it to install the kit....
Correct, you just buy the 9007 hi/low kit and it's plug and play. But buy the slim ballast, it's soooo much better. You don't need an error code eliminator, and brackets are easy to make.

I forget you 9007 guys have it a bit more complicated.

One question that i saw in here that no one answered is what is the option of a dual in dual out ballast, and what is it for. I had my HID's for a week and one of them just went out on my way home tonight

No one answered cause no one has a clue what he was talking about. Whatever it was its not needed and I have yet to see any dual in dual out harness listed on their site heh. If someone could link it for me I could find out what it is but it is not needed. Just follow my directions and that's all ya need to buy then install and disable DRL and good to go.

HID are too much of a hassle in my opinion. i thought about getting them once and realized i didn't want to blind people, and they were more work then they were good. i just got like 20 dollar bulbs on ebay and they look very similar to HID color without the mega brightness and they still light up both sides of the road, i am very pleased. you have to know which brand to get though because i went through about 10 different pairs before i found these good ones. they are called Xtreme Vision. i also have eurolite which look good as well, but Xtreme vision look so close to HID that it's awesome. i would recommend them to anyone who wants the HID look, without the cost and blindness. they already lasted me half a year without a burnout which is probably longer than Sylvania's and any other cheap bulb. just thought i'd throw that out as an option for you. here is a link on amazon but their sold out.

check out my new thread in audio and electronics for a short video showing them.
What is so hard about plugging a ballast into your original wiring and installing a bulb?
And I've had Sylvania's in my car for well over 5 years without a burnout.

Shocking another amazon link.

Well its a little harder then that you have to run a harness but that jsut adds a ground a power cable run the the battery and pluging the harness to the stock wires and the ballast to the harness.
Now on my Malibu I will say it is more of a hassle then its worth for me as of now. I have to remove the front bumper to access the headlight. Complete pain in the ass and I just can't justify doing that to put in HIDs when my stock lights are fine still haha. Once one blows though its HID time.

HID are cool, but i just think they are too bright and should be illegal. well they are illegal, but even on newer cars they blind people and i just don't like them. mine are perfect and i can't go back to stock after seeing my pure whiteness.
