I thought since this has more to do with exterior than electronics...Ok well I did the trunk swap to a 01 Cavvy lid..but where the reverse lights are I made them into an extra pair of brake lights when lights are on (Il post picture when it gets dark)...but now the problem is Im bout to swap out my rear bumper for a 03 Cavvy so I wont have reverse lights...Im thinking of bringing the lines to the reverse light inside and making an extra hole with a dremel so I can have both reverse lights and brake lights there...Too complicated or what do ya'll think?
Oh ok thx...got any ideas?
Would using LED's be more space efficient? I would think maybe instead of on a board run some wires and mount panel inside trunk lid?
This is how I did my reverse lights when I had the same issue with no reverse lights.
They don't look like much but these led's put out more light than the stock reverse lights, are weather proof, and look great.
Some haven't liked them but I do and needed something that was functional and looked good too.
AutoIllumination is where I got the led's and they're 105 lumens each led so more than bright enough to light up what's behind me while I'm backing up.
Good luck with your project.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
When I put a lid on that shaved the inner tails on my Cav, I just wired in a set of small fog lights in the top corners of the license plate area. I would have went with rectangular but I couldn't find any at the time and I was in a rush to pass inspection.. but this is what mine looked like for a short while.
Why is it on a tow truck?
BTW i hear you are stealing parts from jeffie soon... good luck fighting off the cats
I like that idea too and didn't think of that. Nice.

lol... I stored the J at my dad's house for two years, when he moved, the J was no longer registered/inspected/insured, so I had to throw it on a flatbed to move it to his new house, and then I did it again a few months ago when I brought it back home. lol.
And yeah, going down to Jersey next weekend to visit PJ & Jeffie and steal parts from them both
Oh, and I have two crazy ass cats myself, I should be ok, lol.

Thanks.. my stock lid is back on it and I couldn't wait to rip the fogs out of the bumper.. but it was 100% functional and like I said, rectangular lights would have worked better.

just a thought, but you could buy an 2000-02 Sunfire sedan rear bumper, fill in the "Sunfire" logo, paint and voila, rear back-up lights, just my .02.
run no reverse lights?? thats what i did
well stephen, that might work in Indiana, but here in PA, cops can be ummmm, whats the word Im lookin for......
either just run the wires for reverse lights or turn them into designated blinkers haha thats what i did.

I drove almost 3 years (here in PA) with a shaved trunk lid, no reverse lights at all, and never had a problem. In reality, most cops that would be behind you on the road, probably a) aren't familiar enought with Cavs to realize specifically where the reverse lights are or that they are gone, or b) are too busy looking for speeders, aggressive drivers, etc...to really care that you don't have reverse lights.
I think as long as you don't do anything stupid while driving, no one is going to hassle you...basically, don't give them a reason to look at your car, and they probably won't.
what would you guys do for a 2002 sunfire with a streetfire rear bumper. I want to put reverse light in but wasn't sure. looking for ideas?
thanks, jay
I am looking for struts for my newly aquired Eibach pro-kit performance coils, If anybody has some?
Reverse lights are just essential...its a saftey feature for OTHERS, not you. I cant tell you how many times Ive gone through a parking lot even at 5mph and someone whips out at night, I almost rearend them cause they look like they're going forward or parking, and they're backing right up into me. not to mention people dont know when youre backing out of a spot, so they go by you and you end up reversing right into them when they would have normally stopped to let you out.
I think Jazers idea is the least intrusive, or you could go as far as putting a small rectangular one on the bottom of your bumper like in europe, they put red 'fog' lights on your car if its from America, to make it 'compliant'.
04 Cav. 2dr. 5spd. My DD. 'Nuff said.
If you're determined to keep the red for brake lights... you could run bi-colour red/white LED bulbs... white for back up and red for brakes. You might have to get creative with the wiring to make it work..
