So I have been seeing these bloody things popping up on cars all over the web (some on this site), and even locally.
lol mustang owners, always tryin to be things they wish they bought instead
Did I miss the latest trend?
Im kinda undecided on them as they can be pulled off on some cars but not others.
What do you guys think of the fad?
Last fad I remember a few months back was the thule roof racks, and again
more and more smaller cars like ours (especially old vw's) are rocking them.
had a blown ecotec swapped 2000 cavy, now just an 02 Grand Am, and a 74 BMW 2002...
that's like saying why put rims on a car? or why put a spoiler on a car? etc. it's something individual people like, and think looks good on their car. it might not be your thing, but it doesn't have to be.
Tried them out but didnt like them. The idea sounds great but me and a lot of other members can agree that a clean jbody is a nice jbody. Check out the before and after pics of my car in the "photos and media" forum titled "back in viper blue." The comments speak the truth.
With the hate, I have kept mine
WiGM-Tuners member.

Was there a purpose for them on the original Grand Sport or just a neat stripe?

Added aerodynamics
Ah. Smooths the air and scoops it into the crack between the fender and hood.
personally i think they're gheyer than aids, but that's simply my opinion.
and i read on here actually what the original purpose of them was for. i think it had something to do with race teams, but don't quote me on that, somethin bout the drag strip i think.
Yeah it was used to identify certain drivers/teams from what I have read
I've also noticed some popping up on new vehicles from the factory
Does anyone know why this got popular all the sudden though?

It looks good on some cars (when done just right), but most just can't pull it off.

Back with the original 1963 Grand Sports, each team had a different number of stripes (1 to 4) so the spotters could identify his car. Since all the cars looked exactly the same they needed an added identifying mark besides the numbers on the car. And on the '96 they just went with the two stripes.
