Getting frustrated....I have a Vfiber octane also known as the R34 front bumper for my cavi...my cavalier is a 98 base model 2 door. The bumper has a sticker on it on the inside that when run comes up to be a front bumper for a 95-99 cavalier 2/4 door, but it wont fit! They look exactly the same! WTF!?!? Sorry lol, getting fraustrated...what needs to be taken off for this thing to fit? I have the splash guards off, the plastic stuff from around the hood latch, and the plastic thing on the metal impact bar from behind the front bumper...anything else need to come out? It's gapped by the headlights and goes either too far or not far enough on one side but the other side is fine if that makes sense...does the impact bar need to come out? I know its the right bumper...just don't understand why it's not fitting ....any help would be greatly appreciated.....i searched and search but found nothing

I don't get it though...I have seen fiberglass bumpers warped and a bitch to get on, then look all wavy, but this is not warped what so ever...it looks exactly as it does in the pics on the site and the part numbers match..

Heres the pics...it being off going into the wheel well too much may be from when I put the lambo doors on, the fenders arent lined up exact yet, so that may solve it, not 100% sure yet though....wondering about the headlight/side marker gap though..

You could probably add padding on the bumper support to push the bum per out and rise it up So that it lines up towards The fenders and pulls up against the headlights more.

just looks like to me a cheap fg bumper, that will take many hours and much massaging to get to fit right.

Put the foam crush guard or honeycomb on and trim it to fit, should help at least a little bit

Foam crush guard? I had some kind of rubbery plastic crap behind it if thats what you mean? I don't know how I would get it back on though, it was riveted on, and we just pried it off...maybe some self tappers, or get a new impact bar with the rubber thing on it? I thought it had to come off to get the kit to go on...

Lined the fenders up, and they STILL hang a @!#$load into the fender wells, And the more I push it foward, the more the gap gets by the headlights, it does not fit around them AT ALL, WTF?!?! IS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR A CAVALIER!! How the @!#$ are these companys getting away with selling @!#$ that does not fit at all?

They make a mold of a mold of a mold of a mold. And somewhere in all of this inbreeding, you get a cheap kit.

But the kit itself is straight and has a good finish. Ive seen it.

Thanks brian....its very straight, not warped like alot of fiberglass kits i have seen, part number on the bumper matches to the car, just dont see how its that far off by the headlights...i know they can be pretty bad, but it doesnt even seem like its close at all i would think it would be somewhat close, you know?

Your gonna need the crush guard on there to give it support unless you make a frame to hold it up. You could probably get it back up there and hold itself with the rivets and drill new holes in between the rivets through the crush guard and reinforcement and put bolts and washers in it. As mentioned above, some trimming is gonna be involved, but it'll hold in place better. After you get the wheel wells lined up, you may need to add glass to fill in at the headlights. Fiberglass is one cruel mistress...

as said above. there is a downside to cheap fiberglass kits. tons of companies do this, its not new. theres a reason why you see $200 bumpers and then see $800 bumpers. guess which one will fit great? from the pics the bumper doesnt seem as bad as allot of others ive seen. as said get the plastic piece back on and cut it as nessiary to give the bumper support, then push the bumper forward so the fender area matches up. youlle need to fiberglass the rest to match up. or live with a crappy fitting bumper.

What would be the best way to go about the glassing around the headlights?

get a new bumper.. the crap you have now will cost more money to fix then you originally paid for it

Lol, I pretty much paid nothing for it...and since I have fiberglass resin and mat in the garage as I am frequently glassing stuff, why not? I want to eventually switch to urethane, but for now, I will put the work and effort into getting the temp. kit to fit

If you can do the work yourself, and you have skill, then the cheap kit will probably work for you. Take your time, plan your work, and post up your progress.

For anyone who pays to have it done, a cheap kit will cost more in labor than the money you saved over buying the quality kit.

I say just install the crash pad and it should solve all your problems

I have my front bumper off I will take some pics tonight to see if it helps you out. As it has already been said put the crush guard (black plastic thing you refered to it as) and trim to fit. Once you get around the headlights you will have to take some measurements and see how much you will have to add.

The key is trimming the crush guard. Not cut it off completely.

I'm almost %100 that will fix alot of your problems. Bumper looks to be decent fitting, Just pushed back too far. It looks like in those pics, there is plenty of room for the lip to move forward under the headlight as well as the fenders.

Does it fit better if you pull it out some?

As long as your gel coat doesn't suck. Some gel coat will crack at the slightest bend.

I am getting kind of happy now...was working on getting the R34 bumper to fit today but couldnt just yet, put the factory bumper back on, and the factory gaps the exact same around the headlights and corner lights....so its looking like the R34 will fit like a glove once its moved out as far as it needs to be and the energy absorber is back on to hold it up a bit..may actually need some taken off not sure yet though, but at least good news now lol..yay!
