Sorry this isn't a specific problem to my cavy but I would appreciate some feedback anyways. Mine is R title, whoever rebuilt it did an excellent job mechanically speaking but when it came to cosmetic repair they didn't paint it correctly. The front bumper was off of a red cavy and it seems to me that they didn't even prep it when they sprayed the black on it. After winter i notice that i have red chips shining though and they are nice and glossy.
My plan for re-painting it is this. First course grit sanding to get through the red, a little finer before priming, clean, coat of self etching primer, light sanding, clean, coat of black, coat of black, coat of clear, coat of clear, wet sand, then buff with rubbing compound. If anyone has some suggestions as to what to change to this list or some things to add and the only real question i have is do i have to sand between the coats of pain and clear?

id just start on a fender or hood bought from a junkyard and pracitce practice practice
or do like me ignore the pros paint a car looks good for 1 day, over winter chips. peels, shine starts going away. end up redoing it the right way after a winter of research with the correct equipment and still run a risk of not getting it 100% the way you imagine in your head.

plastic the worst to learn on especially a offlien plastic like whats on gm cars today which are TEO.TPE,TPO AND PP the wrong grit and all you have is a fuzzy mess, that plastic is waxy and greasey, if the paint is flaking send it off to a shop that will remove the bumper and send the bumper off to be stripped and it comes back in primer, i havent stripped a bumper in years due to places like keystone and other companies that do nothing but repair bumper like yours
its worth the money trust me on that, im a 20yr tech and we no longer strip plastic we send it out painter paints it and we put it back on i believe the total cost for something like this is 750, you do it its going to cost you more money becasue you put the wrong material on and trying to strip plastic when you have no knowledge of body work at all it cold cost you over 1,000 becasue you were wanting to play body man
send it out you will thank us in the long run
