I'm gonna shave my door handles on my 2003 Sunfire. Should I get the 15 lb solenoid kit or spend the extra $70 on the 35 lb solenoid kit?
15 should be fine
you don't want them to open all the way just enuf to get in
i shaved mine off and haven't put poppers in just pull on the door
35-50 lb for sure... 15 lb is for a trunk latch, not a door.
SPAL 40 lb kit is really nice & reliable. Autoloc has 50+ lb kits, but Spal seems to be better.
If you decide on a Spal kit, let me know... I can get you a kit.

what does the spal 40lb kit do? does it open it up all the way? what about when you park near cars at a grocery store and you cant open it up that much, can you stop it with your hand? how hard are they to install?

I had the autoloc cylinders, and they quit in no time. I went with the spal and like them a lot better.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
is it hard to shave door handles? can i do it myself with no experience whatsoever?
"What we do in life, echoes in eternity"
Its going to be hard for you to do it correctly if you have no experience. You would be better off bringing it somewhere
i thought i couldnt do it, thanks for helping. i like when i get real answers and not harrasment because i ask dumb questions sometimes..

its really not that hard go get a door from a junk yard and try.....you can get one for like $25
i did mine
ive got the hole filled with fiberglass mat and fiberglass resin then a little bit on bondo on to to make it perrrrrfect
got some nice trunk poppers from the junk yard and hooked them up to my alarm
the way your suppose to do it is cut off the indent and weld some sheet metal behind it then finish it off with bondo
otherwise it had a tendency to crack
i did my passenger side just with bondo cheap kind too. my subs made it crack almost all the way around
^^^that's the completely wrong way to do it.
Wow, when that big chunk of fiberglass falls out, let us know. I need a good laugh.

toooo bad it wont i had drilled holes and put the fiberglass in through both sides its been two yrs and not a crack or nothing
cant say the same for the other side i had only used bondo and it did crack all most all the way around... fiberglass resin works good i had also done the whole inside of my roof so its not so flimsy
drivers door

drivers door inside

passenger door failed just used bondo

did the same for the antenna

ohhh and heres my ghetto popper
yess i know i have zip ties holding it down havent got around to welding.its held for almost 2 yrs no so it dosent bug me. ill do it when i weld my trany mounts on.
I'm still thinking about doing it soon.....i plan on doing the welding on it , of course.....ill take the advice in this tread and get the right solenoids...thanks !!!!
