Anybody know what the laws are on removing side view mirrors? I know cars from the 70's and earlier would commonly have one or no side view mirrors, but have the rear view mirror.
So basically, does anybody know if it would be illegal to remove these so I can shave that spot, or are some cars only grandfathered into a new law?

i know that in quebec you can remove the passenger one but you have to keep the drivers one on any car unless they never came with mirors
All right, I'm just not sure at all. We have a '77 nova where that is fully loaded with no passenger mirror, and the driver one was an option. I'm just thinking it would be cool to have one of the few cars on the road without side views

Around here you only need the driver side. Unless the car came without it. But check your local laws its different everywhere.
Why would u wanna do that anyway. I use it when backing, parking, towing driving,. plus i see some early 90;s civics with out them factory and its just dumb i think. but ur car do as u want.

Considering its a cavalier, I never use it for towing lol. I use my truck for that. But I just never use them, I can park my car in any place with just a rear view mirror, or by just knowing whats around me. I figured I would be resorting to local laws though

here in Alberta the traffic law is clear... you cannot completely remove any safety equipment that was original to the vehicle... therefore here it would be illegal since side mirrors are considered safety equipment....
Call up your local police station or try a more local forum.
Most States have websites that you can use to check all your Local Laws & Motor Vehicle requirements, & DOT Rules.
However, if you check...........almost ALL States & Canada clearly state either *ALL orginal Safety Equipment MUST remain intact.
OR
TWO "rear facing" mirrors are required at all times: 1 side & 1 windshield or 2 sides.
BUT................
Don't go by what people say........check your local laws yourself.

Yeah I tried emailing the Sheriff's department in Hennepin County, MN (where I live) and they haven't responded to me yet. So I'm guessing I'm just going to leave them on, or swap out to some k6 style ones. I just don't want the ones that have the stupid l.e.d. light in the mirror itself

i only have a drives side....i left the outer sail on the car, took the mirror parts off, and filled in the area flat that the mirror used to be in...and painted it black. i only use my drivers side and rear view.......never used the passen\ger mirror, because you carnt see out of it good enuff....so i always was ending up looking behind my shoulder anyways....so what was the poit...so its gone now!!!
^^^ok, well its actually a work in progress...not done with it completely.
so dont knock me if it doesnt look good yet, i still have to fill it a lil more,
and sand it down again, and then repaint it with the rest of the car,
as u can see, my car is torn apart. im getting ready to paint it satin black.
so i just threw a light coat of paint over it so you guys can see how it would look.
...thought the car was totalled so returned it back to stock
is a 2200 with 3speed, intake, ehxhaust, and agx/pro-kit tho.
dont be hatin! lol so now im rebuilding/repainting, and putting back on mods.
plz no ban for meeeez!!!!
what u guys think?
That doesn't look too bad, I would just personally rather stick with mirrors on both sides or neither. I just don't want the $@!tty looking aftermarket l.e.d. mirrors. If I could find that style without the l.e.d. lights though....
