They're glued on.
Have to ruin them to get them off.
Well, you may be able to get them off without ruining them but I haven't heard of it being done.

Chazz relocated his gas cap there. Pm him,I think his screen name is 'chazz with the camera'. He's in the military, but I think he's been on since then.

Yes they can be removed without destroying them...they are urethaned on so u need a heat gun a putty knife and whole crap load of patience. Take your time because they wont just come off in 30 seconds. Remove the interior panel, they may have 2 or 3 nuts holding them on as well but if you heat the inside (DONT TORCH IT) with a heat gun and have someone on the outside slowly slide a putty knife under them you can get them off...they are NOT a part of the body...they are plastic!!!

I actually had an idea on shaving the like between that peice and the quarter but a shop here in town told me not to because it is a "flex point" and whatever I use to mold (Fiberglass, body filler) will just crack....just like the seams they have on the roof....dont mean to thread jack, just curious....

Did the same thing, had one of them off and deciding now to use the rear sunfire interior quarter panels .

That is a flex point, any time you accelerate or stop hard that point of the car flexes and has a good chance of cracking if anything is molded in. Being that these cars are only a 3 pillar car instead of a 4 pillar car they have to flex somewhere when any torque is put to the j-body.
