brighter headlights
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 11:17 PM
So, I know nothing about HIDs, blue ones, projector....its all foreign to me! All I want to know is how to make my normal low beams brighter. On the highway I can't see for crap and I feel like its not safe.

Can I buy brighter bulbs or something? Of course, the cheaper the better! Thanks!

well i really don't want to buy new projectors or really any headlight assembly...I kinda just wanna buy brighter bulbs!

Would buying new brighter bulbs make my stock headlights brighter...sounds stupid, but I know nothing about lighting...

Silverstars are nice.

Re: brighter headlights

Silverstars are ok, although seeing on wet roads you loose some light with them, at least in the applications I have seen them in. But a higher wattage halogen is going to be brighter, I like the "super white" type lights, as you loose less light on wet roads.

HIGHER WATTAGE BULBS IN STOCK HOUSINGS RISK BURNING WIRES & MELTING BULB SOCKETS!!!!! DON'T DO IT !!!!!

Just have someone help you with an upgrade to HID or Projectors or stick with a BETTER Brand bulb with the SAME wattage.

Any way you look at it HIDs/projectors are much more expensive.

I was on ebay one day and found these "super white" headlights... they were like 8 bucks with shipping. Well i was like, what the hell, if they don't work they are only 3 bucks. Well they came in and i put them in, and i am not jokeing, they worked wonders. I have had the same headlights in for about 4 months now, working good as ever.

I was having the same problem as you. I would be driving down the road and a car would pass the other way and i would be blind at night because my headlights werent bright enough and their headlights temporarily blinded me because of this.

also, DONT get any bulb that has a colored coating on it to make it look 'HID' like, it reduces output. Just go with a silverstar or night hawk higher end bulb. They'll run ya around 60 or so bucks. Other option is gettin the ebay projectors for like 150 and then buying a $200 HID kit.... haha

HID like... and i was telling you that i have them in my car now, and it is a great improvement. Once again, i know this because i am running them now.

I hate to do it (lol) but ill vouch for GTmatters, they are bright. He followed me about 2 weeks ago and ill tell you they are bright. As for visibility I cant vouch for, but they were bright in my mirror.

BTW, Silverstars have a bluish coating on them in case you never noticed.

Dude ya!! I'm thinking the same thing because I just spend $42.xx at Advance Auto on Silverstars! I thought for a second about getting the Ultras, but I figured silverstars would be bright enough...

I'm gonna go look at them now in the dark! God I wish I would have took 10 seconds and looked on ebay and got ultras for less than half the price!

silverstars in the headlights and some powerful AMBER lights in the fog housings. The orange on the bottom will help illuminate the roads in the rain.

I have the same bulbs but the highbeams appear no different then the low beams? Did I screw something up or is it just how these are?

nope it turned out to be the headlight switch, but i was doing the process of elimination and bulbs are cheaper than the switch so i knocked them out first

Silverstars (both ultra and the previous model) SUCKED in my car. They rocked in everyone elses, but I couldn't see shiat! lol My Fogs were brighter for christ sake lol

I upgraded to HID's and a projector housing, however I noticed you don't wanna spend a lot etc. There is a $35 HID kit floatin around on the internet somewhere I can't remember the name of it, but a friend of mine is running it and seems not to have any issues that I know about ? But my moto at the end of the day still stands as buy cheap get cheap. Just My opinion.

If I was you I'd save and buy an HID kit. (not a cheap one either)
