opinions on locking hood pins
Sunday, March 29, 2009 11:06 PM
Just picked up a new C/F hood for my car and i'm looking for hood pins. I dont want the ones with pins the stick up on the hood. I was checking out the aerocatch pins but dont wanna spend almost $100 for them. So my other option is locking pins like this http://www.modacar.com/products/Honda/Civic/NRGHPin/NRG+Innovations+Carbon+Fi.html Now i've heard that these aren't that safe and can open up while driving. I know Joey Baggs had his open on him. Anyone else have problems with them or anything?? If you dont wanna look at the site heres a pic

when you're in a situation requiring hood pins, it's not something i'd cheap out on.

i get your point there but i still cant see paying $100 for a bolt with a hole in it and a pin to slide in it. I know its more then that but still.

as you mentioned....I would advise against them.

even the $10 ebay pins are better than those locking pins.

I liked the Sparco pins I had, not only did they flip over to latch into place but even if you you fliped it open I had it all adjusted tight enough where the pins couldn't slide out without pushing down on the hood alittle bit while pulling.

i dig my cusco ones as well, they were the only all aluminum/stainless ones i could find in a locking configuration.

Those are the ones I have on the Sunfire. What color were yours, and did yours start rusting (the top part/pin)?

What style is your hood? I have a VIS OEM style hood on my cav and have never had issues with the hood flying up. It flexes on the highway a bit but has never come up on me (knock wood). It's always a good idea to be safe so if you're going with pins, spend the money. Personally, I couldn't bring myself to drill into that sweet sweet weave.

silver

They never rusted but I then again I parted out and got rid of the car shortly after putting the hood on, they say daylight maybe 15 times and then the hood with pins sit in the original packaging till it sold

i have the same sparco pins as darkstars and no problems here. i would rather have them than any other ones because i know they are latched and wont come un done by themselves.

I would suggest the aerocatch pins as a first option but if your looking to not spend that much go with the sparcos as they mentioned.

yea i have those on my sunfire. These are gonna be on my Talon lol. I like the fact that you can see that the hoods locked but i hate the fact that they are ontop of the hood. know what i mean? it kinda messes up the smoothness of the hod and front end.

what messes up the smoothness of the hood is when its smashed against your windshield

better than having the hood fly open at 80mph and causing a lot of damage because you dont want to spend 50 bucks on hood pins.

Word. Trust me, when mine blew up, I lost an $800 hood, along with the time/materials I put into making it fit the Silvia headlights, plus paint, plus a $250 windshield, as well as a dented roof that had to be fixed and re-painted.

Alot of money wasted because of a set of crap hood pins

most people add them for function, not because they are fans of them

exactly, when i see mine teetering at 45mph it got me worried real fast, if a semi passed me in the opposite direction it would probably snap off...
