My buddy just bought a 96 cav and we have been trying to get it ready for safety, along with some tasteful mods along the way.
We took the headlights off the car to take the bumper off and found a mess of wiring attatched to the headlight wires.
It seems the previous owner did SOMETHING (which i have not figured out exactly what yet) to cause his lights not to function and to try and fix his mistake he wired up his own switch to turn his headlights on.
Now im a perfectionist of sorts, so of course i dont want a hackjob headlight fix so i removed his wires (which didnt turn the headlights on in the first place).
Long story short, now we are stuck because when you turn the lights on, the running lights dont work.
Then when you click the lights on to "night time" running, the drls come on.
And when you try to use the highs, nothing happens.
Im really stumped as to what to do...
I would like the ultimate result to be normal function of the lights...
Can anyone help me figure out what to do??
ANY insight would be appreciated...
Andrew
sounds like maybe he was trying to fix a problem.....like a bad multi function switch.
Honestly, I would go to a bone yard, and grab a new harness, all the way up to the switch. and replace it all. Whenever a hack gets into wiring, who knows what all damage they did.
Thanks for the replies you guys,
and thanks cavGTP for that wiring diagram!
Huge help
We are hitting the scrap yard tomorrow to see what we can come up with..
ugh i hate hack jobs
