so, i come here today, asking advice from the jbo electrical gods.
i've done the malibu hi/low beam mod (activate a relay off of the high beams to turn on the low beams) and an h.i.d. kit. i followed the instructions in the sticky for disabling the drls (cut the small blue wire on the cluster harness), but all that managed to do was disconnect my e-brake switch altogether. whenever i go to even put the car in "on" without the headlights on, i get a both low and high beams flashing on both sides and the drl indicator lamp flashing. so thats where i stand. i have the day off tomorrow and will try to sort this out.

About the only advice i could give you probably wont work. I did not modify an wires in either of my cars. I used a Tech II to disable the DRL's.
i want one of those.

but alas, the two dealers in my area would not only charge $120 for labor (cost of one hour), but i HIGHLY doubt they'd know what they were looking for.

you dont CUT the wire, you ground it....
upps....
forgot to explain....
to explain, the computer is clicking them on and off, looking for a ground to show that the headlights are on. thus disabling the drls. i learned this by when i installed my stereo, used the same ground location, and some how my disable wire came un-attached. well sure enough, every time i cut the car on, the headlights flash 4-5 times, and then the "maintenance" light comes on.
but then wouldn't the brake light in the cluster be on constantly? because it never comes on now whether the ebrake is up or not...

What year is your car? on my 02 the brake sensor wire is also blue, but a light blue. I think you cut the wrong wire.
*** Note to all, make sure when you cut it that you leave enough slack on both ends so some day if you go to reconnect it, its easier to splice a wire back in.

there are two blue wires, even though it clearly explains how to do it, it's not uncommon that people on here accidently cut the wrong one. one is for the DRL's and the other is for E-brake. I'd take it back apart to see if maybe you cut the wrong one.

Did I mention I drive a 2000 Lumina now?-----wigm-tuners.org member
agreed. i also had the SAME exact setup. HIGH low mod with Hid's. i cut the blue wire. and i was just fine. so. i think you cut the wrong wire. and that WAS on my 96
