Like the titles says, need to ideas on applying carbon fiber vinyl, i did a searh with no info showing up....I wanna carbon fiber my trunk to get rid of some of the rust, id paint it but i cant match the color. So i plan on sanding, bondo, the surface rust , and then laying the vinyl
NO NO NO NO NO please dont do that....it would never stick to the bondo, and if the bondo decided to flake or peel, it would look like BUTT!!!!! I'm in the same boat, so guess what I aquired....about 17 square yards of carbon fiber YAY ME!!!! so some experimenting with different resins, and my trunk will be wrapped in no time...
yea but how much did it cost you, plus im at the delma right now where, im still about 8months away from really wanting if i choose to, buy a car, but im also on the fence about keeping my car, and if i do choose to keep my car it'll need a paint job, so thats why i thought, the vinyl, and maybe not bondo, possibly fiberglass, but if the carbon fiber is a decent deal and semi-easy to laydown then id give it a shot, you know? keep me posted of a possible pic of what this looks like, ?
eh, i hate that primer on one peice look, especially for 8 months, right now it looks decent, only like 1 small spot of rust, but ik what u mean by fixing it then deciding
[quote=BoltZ DesignZ™]just fix the rust and leave it in primer for the time being until you decide if you're keeping the car or not.y if u r going down to bare metal, which u should be where the rust is. primer absorbs moisture. if u leave it in just primer ESPECIALLY for 8 months, after going down to bare metal to fix rust, when u lay paint down, expect it to rust! after u r done primering. hit it with some paint. ASAP!!!
I have sold carbon fiber vinyl and i no longer do so. There was a recall on it and i see why, it is very temporary, they make no carbon fiber realistic vinyl for that matter that lasts longer than 6-12 months outdoors. Now they do make a carbon looking vinyl which is black with silver squares that lasts a bit longer but that looks very cheap.
Sounds like what you want now is a wrap on that portion of your car, wraps last outdoors and are affordable.
Are you talking about the vinyl as in the cheap stickers, or the vinyl fabric?
Whatever you do do NOT use CF vinyl (stickers of "carbon fiber" patterns), looks nothing like the real thing, you get laughed at too. Fake carbon fiber is retarded, end of story. Never put it on anything.
If you're going to wrap your trunk in real CF, you got some work ahead of you.

cf vynal wrapped trunk lid. im sorry but your not fixing a rust probably by just wrapping it.
Go to a PPG store and get some self etching primer in a rattle can. Its about $30. Its probably the best option if you can't paint.
CF vinyl is sold at auto parts stores in the rice section, i used it to cover the holes on my 04 trunk lid when i swapped tails... waiting for my rksport filler. also vinyled my emblem

the filler is well worth the wait! from when i ordered it to the time i recieved it was 5 weeks
just go grab the fake cf vinyl from the dodge dealership. they are all over the new challenger hoods... i would think they stock it...
try fixing tha rust painting the trunk to seal it in any color black will do. lay the CF Vinyl over the trunk, and then spray clear coat over it all. then sand till super smooth and shiney. but thats if u wanna do tha CF vinyl. itv may not look best in most peoples eyes, but as long as u like it, it lasts tha 8 months of longer that u need, and it fixes the rust....
