so i have had some rust appear in the last year, one spot on the passenger quarter was all the way threw, pics,,,
this spot was fully threw
got a quote on fixing it from a local body shop and about @!#$ my pants, what do u guys think of the quote???
i dont know what else to really do, if i let it go where it is, its gonna be a mess
I certainly hope they're replacing it, that's the only thing that's going to fix that long term.
Quote looks fine to me, not bad at all. That's a helluva lot of work to do replacing all of that.
and... MAKE SURE THEY ARE REPLACING ALL THAT METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they told me they were going to cut up to the side molding (z24 trim) only, and sand blast the rocker part
I highly doubt just sandblasting that is going to help long term.... but ok?
ya, looks like its not gonna get fixed
Remove your side skirt, get a wire brush and an angle grinder. Hit all those spots and get rid of the loose flaky rust. Get yourself some Marine clean, metal ready and POR-15, which can all be bought on the POR-15 website. Its suppose to stop rust in its tracks. Give it 3 coats. Then sand that with 300 grit to etch the POR-15 and then use body filler and smooth everything out and re-finish it.
It will be far less than what they quoted you. I cannot guarantee it will completely stop it forever, but it will atleast stop it for how long you own it or the motor dies.
I just did my entire underbody and rockers myself. You cannot even peel this stuff or break it unless you sand it off the metal once applied.
Do a search in P&M for "this is why I hate NY" or something close to that and you'll see my thread.
G'luck bud.
