I'm have been wondering if it would be at all possible to do a trunk lid swap/mod on the 2003 to 2005 Cavalier to an earlier model, like a 2000 to 2002, etc.
If it has been posted already, please leave links to any how-to's, etc.

thinkin you miss understood him.. he's going from a 2003 trunk lid to the 95-02 trunk lids
yes its very easy to swap trunk lids. bolt off bolt on ahha.. but again dont need a how to.. take off your trunk lid and intall in the reverse method. dont forget to get earlier tail lights from 95-02.
actually since you already have the rksport bezel .. just get the tails lights, if you only looking into getting rid of your current tails. unless you tryin to get rid of the bezel then go ahead and do the swap.

Yeah, I'm wanting to clean up the backend, no bezel or anything. I'm just curious if the outer taillight portions would fit in the sockets on the fender without the surround.

heres some simple common questions with answer taken directly from the faq. please read the faqs before posting
Quote:
Third Generation Info:
1) Hoods on 3rd Gen J-bodies are the same for that car from 95-02, 03+ is different.
2) Fenders are all the same on 3rd Gen Jbodies
3) Three different bumpers for 3rd Gen: 95-99, 00-02, 03+
4) Trunk lids for cavaliers are same throughout 95+
5) Trunk lid for sunfires changed in 03
6) Side skirts are interchangeable between sunfires and cavaliers.
7) Some side skirts are interchangeable between 4door and 2door jbodies (ex. Importfighter, z24, buddyclub 2, anything that does not flare up at all)
8) If you have 00-02 base model cav, and you want the z24/LS lips, the easiest part would be the buy the whole front bumper. There are many holes cut into the bottom side of the bumper for the clips to run through. You can do it yourself, but it takes time. You decide.

So, if I get this right; Yes I can install an older trunk lid on my '03, and I can install lights into the fenders without a surround(According to #2 and #4).
Thanks guys, the help has been most appreciated.

first off the rear of the car does not have 'fenders' they are called quarter panels...
secondly, any 95-05 cav trunk will work with any 95-05 cav. they are all the same. just a different physical look.
and yes, the 03-05 tails bolt right onto any 95-05 cav. any 95-05 cav tail will work with any 95-05 cav.

yea i was alittle confused too.
My 03' with the older trunk and lights. I got everything from the junkyard and had it painted to match. It only took me 1 hour to swap the trunks and taillights and line everything back up.

Very nice. In the matter of the taillights, I'm thinking of either what you have done or do a set of Toyota Cav lights, either the '95-'99 or the '00. And if I go that route, it involves having to run one more wire for the turn signal. At least that's what I was getting from the wiring diagrams.
Btw, I took a look between my car and a '95-'99 and I was seeing what looked like a bit of a lip around my light after I took the surrounds off. Was there the same thing on yours?
