This may be kind of an odd question and hopefully someone will have a suggestion. I go camping a lot and am thinking of taking the Cavalier instead of the Bonneville due to the ridiculously high gas prices. We access the trunk many times for the cooler, chairs and everything so what I hope I could do is close the trunk lid but not lock it. On my Bonneville you could lower the trunk lid all the way close to locking it and it will stay down but on the Cavalier the lid will always pop right back up fully if not locked. Short of tying a rope to the lid and the lip of the bumper, what could I do? Is there an adjustment that could be done to the trunk lid to keep it lowered but not locked?

try playing around with the tension bar... its right below the rear deck....
Yep, that's my suggestion. Works on my Sunfire.
Take the cooler and whatnot out of the trunk?

Maybe a bunge cord to the bumper and trunk? Or not trying to be a smart a$$ but take it out of the trunk or just deal with it?

get a keyless trunk popper and put it hang the ring around the bottom part of the antenna. then just pop it open with the key fob LOL.. or yea get a 00+z24 spoiler
hang a weight on the inside?

exactly, you can only take stuff out once.
if you don't have a spoiler, just put a spoiler on. one my 99 cavalire the trunk lid would fly up with the stock lid (no spoiler). When I had the 95-99 Z24 and now with the 00-02 Z24 spoiler it just barely raises, just like what you are looking for.
