HID question..
Saturday, June 14, 2008 7:40 PM
Ok im sure there is a write up about this somewhere and I missed it when I was searching. I have a 2000 cavalier Z24 and I just bought a 9007 6k plug and play HID kit off ebay (no name, sorry guys) and im not sure how to hook them up. So when they came in I took everything out and read what instructions they gave me. I pluged all the plugs up and go out to install them and I have my stock harness in my hand and it has a three prong plug and the one on the hid kit has 2 wires (red and black) coming off and Im suppose to plug those into the end of the stock harness. Question is which prong do i put them into to make them work. I played around for a bit with it and got the passenger side to work but when you plug the driverside up, it comes on for a min, then starts blinking and going crazy and shuts off. So I took them out and came to ask the experts before I blow my car up lol. Please help

did you disable you daytime running lights? that will do it or the ballast is being starved for the current it needs.

the kit will have two wires ... does the plug for the kit match what your factory plug is? if you just have two wires coming off the ballast....you will need to buy or make a harness w/ a relay.
i guess you could splice those wires into your low beam wires but you risk burning up your wire harness

the two wires coming off the hids have flat metal ends on them that slide right in to the end of the stock harness. Just dont know what slots to use or if i got it right and its just a ground problem. I know the HID kit I got is only low beams.

My plug and play kit wouldnt work with stock harnesses, They would just flicker and not fully ignite, you're probably going to need to buy a relay to draw power straight form the battery. (20 bucks or so on Ebay) That's what I did before I yanked them because because theyre too blinding without projectors ><

Ya my dad works on electical wiring. The problem was that with both hids hooked up to the stock harness, the stock harness does not supply enough power to run both hid ballast off the stock harness. so I have the passengerside light plugged into the harness for the switch and the power is coming straight off the battery. The drivers side is wired right into the stock harness and they work fine now. my dad said that you dont have to have a relay to make it work. thanks guys. If anyone has anything else to add please. thanks guys

Your fathers correct, but He should note that if water or something shorts out the HID's... kiss your eletroics goodbye.

Trust me, I had a harness pop on me once, there worth the money and 5 minutes install (that includes hiding wires.)

Best of luck bro hope the kit works good.
