I have a solid amount to do over the next few weeks. Its nothing new to me, but I am looking for a better blaster. I have used a gravity feed hopper style and it was a ROYAL pain in the ass!!! I am seeing these pressurized ones at harbor freight and tractor supply. Nothing too big 10 gallon or so, and I have a compressor which can handle the CFM's required for any blaster.
Also why type of material should I be shooting at an under carraige body frame and engine sub frame. The sub frame is pretty good with surface rust, and the under body of my car isn't that bad. I was thinking the Black Diamond brand 40 grit. Open to all opinions.
honestly bro, wrong forum. FInd a classic car forum and they can help you out. thirdgen.org or something like that.
Really cody i wouldnt go as far to sandblast the bottom...making more work for yourself then its worth...
Id just get under it and scrub it with some scotchbrites and simple green or something aong those lines..maybe hit the surface rust with a wire wheel and then por 15 it..or undercoat it...
yeah I think sandblasting might be a little to much for that......the subframe & spindles could indeed use it, but the rest, thats overkill i would say. If you do the spindles, take those bearings out first....bearings + sand = oops.
I think a wire wheel would be more suited to your undercarriage needs though.
Aight, I'll see how that goes. We have some good ones we use at the shop. I'll be removing the bearings on the knuckles, and I have to use my side grinder to cut the rest of the outer tie rod off that one which i split 2 sockets open on trying to get the damn thing off. Yay for craftsman's warranty.
Yah id send all the bolt on stuff to the coaters and get them coated...im doin the same thing..then just wire wheel and por 15 the rest
And spray with a rust inhibiter if you arenot gonna coat it. or even if you do coat it, use rust preventive primer...
