pics are floating around here some where and im sure you would find them if you looked hard enough.

can use the rail system out of a del sol(i have a top and front and rear rails form a t-boned 93 si) but requires a bunch of fabrocation ive already looked into it way to much work lots of welding and seal work, plus the doors on a cavy have top braces and a delsol does not. so dont even try it

im pretty sure the convertable doors dont have that top brace in the door, its window right up to the top. i might be wrong, but i think they do.

thats true. are conv. doors the same or do they not have a brace???? that would make things alot easier. i believe that all you would have to do to make the top wider is weld flaps of sheet metal off the top of the sides and roll the center of the flap so that the other end sits the same on the under side and weld then glass and prep. as for the roof my only idea was to cut the section out and weld in 1/4 pieces of flat steel matching the shape of the areas cut out. then drill holes in the flat braces for the rails.( little 3 inch steel shafts that slide into the holes to hold the top down they work on and slider system)then find some kind of weather stripping that will work for all four sides. and you show be good to go. you might need to add roof braces as a precaution or a roll cage as this setup was not meant for this vehicle the roof will severely lose rigidity when the top is not in...just my 2 cents from when i approached this project.

it would probably be easiest to start with a vert, then cut the top off a non-vert and go from there.

this way you know the stucture of the car can handle it, not to mention the doors will be window all the way up...and you have a startingpoint for above the glass

thats how i would approach it personally.

lol, this was an idea i tossed around when doing the widebody. but i didnt feel like starting over with a vert, so scrapped it.

i just sold my last project due to no more money but it was a 2001 chevy prizm.. and i cut the roof off and welded the 2 back doors shut and yada yada all that good stuff but let me tell you if your goin to atempt any kind of roof desigin please look into and know what you are getting into beacouse it will bite you in the ass later on down the road..USE BRACES!!! on the interior of the roof if you try the targa but on a cavi or sunflower belive me its not worth the time you will also waste to much money on it if you want it to look perfect. i mean if you want to try it go for it but i rate a targa top on a cavi a 9 out of 10 in how hard it will be lol .... be a cool project tho

put an x brace underneath, a roll cage, firewall with pillars, windshield and doors from a vert. work at a fab shop so you can make a seal piece for the back of the targa to seal against and its easy.
mine will be out soon enough. its actually not that hard but its a sh#t ton of work to get it to seal good. Mine should be out round fall and no i will not show pics till its done.
