Is my bumper able to be fixed?
Wednesday, August 22, 2007 10:10 PM
Okay here is the deal when I bought the car someone hit it on the dealer lot. Looked at it the day before I signed the papers and it was fine. I just want to see if it can be fixed or not. It's got some wrinkles and creases and a couple small holes.

A lot of paints do have a flex agent in them already... unless it's really cheap crappy paint. If the bumper was pushed in enough, and it either popped back out or was popped back out right after it happened, the paint can spider like that and it have nothing to do with whether or not there was a flex agent in the paint.

The dealer didn't do anything to it. It was my dads cousin that was the salesman. Not a big deal just seeing wether it's repairable or should just be replaced?

exactly my point. the dealership probly used crap paint as well.

i definatly agree with you about the spidering, but why would they pop the dent out AFTER they shot it?

ok let's try this...

I do not recall him saying the dealership painted the car... it could be factory paint for all you or anyone on here but him knows...

so... let's say the salesman hit the car or accidentally backed it into something. Bumper gets pushed in... and spiders. Maybe it just gets pushed in far enough it spiders... maybe it's actually dented in and they push it back out. Either way, whether you use flex agent, or the paint comes with flex agent... it does not matter how much flex agent you put into paint, if a flexible body panel is pushed in enough, it can spider.

I was giving a hypothetical situation because no one knows EXACTLY what happened... or how bad it was. You're ASSUMING the dealership painted the car before he bought it... because he did not state whether he bought the car new or used...

I had flex primer on my Sunbird kit and the paint still spider-webbed after last winter...granted I did ram it through (and get it stuck on) a mound of ice...

My car has factory paint on it, The dealer did nothing to the car other than ruin a back bumper lol. It's 100% straight off the gm line paint.

So this is still like that from 3 years ago? Well from the starting the dealer should have fixed it no questions asked....but you did take it off of the price of the car.

Yes it is repairable.

Also sometimes dealers have to re-paint parts of the cars they get shipped right from the manufacturer. Sometimes they can get scratched during shipping as well.

Might be easier/cheaper to go to a junker or check the classifieds for another rear bumper though.

so what your saying is if there is enough flex agent in the paint and its very good quality paint that no matter what happens it will never crack for spider web?
