whats the best way to go about this??
A hair drier can help to soften the adhesive also. After you use the goo gone there may be some really stiff caked on wax, there was on mine and other than scraping it with my thumbnail, it wouldn't come off till I claybarred it.
Try thinner then polish it. to get all the adhesive off thats what i did with mine came out perfrct

dont use goo-gone, use wd-40.
use goo gone and fishing line like Kevin Richter said worked perfect on my car and my moms.
I've never heard of someone using thinner to strip their badges, but i can see how that would work, if you were to go that route you need to be very careful. Thinner is meant to remove paint not adhesive from paint.
It doesn't remove the paint unless u let it sit there. I use it all the time at work on cars to get rid of all kinds of stuff road tar, paint scrapes and so on and so on

i personally would never use thinner anywhere near my paint. may work for you, but theres a bunch of other ways to do it. why chance it if you dont need to
so i used wd40 and some bug and tar remover from turtle wax and it came right of off
it also helped that i heated up the adhesive before i tried to take it off made it more plaible.
If u know what ur doing with thinner u won't have any problems
